RICHARD Bland is in position to land his maiden European Tour victory after a seven-birdie 67 in the second round of the Lyoness Open, Austria.

The Stoneham professional, who was in contention for victory after 54 holes of last month’s Nordea Masters before a disappointing final round 76 sent him crashing down the leaderboard was in third place on eight under par just four strokes behind leader Thorbjørn Olesen when yesterday’s second round was brought to a premature close by lightning . Frenchman Thomas Levet is just one stroke ahead of Bland in second.
