Southampton ’s Gary Hunt led the champagne celebration in Boston after another dramatic Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series success.
In front of 47,000 spectators and more than 200 boats crowding the area around the Institute of Contemporary Art building on Saturday, two-time World Series champion Hunt repeated his victory of last year from the 27.5m platform on America’s East Coast in this season’s sole urban venue.
The Southampton diver leads the series ahead of Colombia’s Orlando Duque, who made up 11 positions to finish second in Boston.
Hunt said: “I didn’t know if my dives were good enough and it was really tough watching those last three divers, knowing that a really good dive could take me off the podium. It worked out in my favour and Boston is a great place with such a big crowd.”
Blake Aldridge, former Southampton Academy diver, delighted the Boston crowds with a brand new move – back armstand 2 ½ somersaults with four twists free – which he had only learned the day before. He is in seventh place overall.
