Hampshire ace Jack Singh-Brar has continued his wonderful year by claiming the South of England Boys Championship.

The 16-year-old, pictured below, produced a dominant performance at Yeovil and Sherborne to romp home by seven shots.

Singh-Brar set the tone with an opening seven-under-par round of 65 at Sherborne – matching the record score he set at the course when he was 14.

A one-under-par 70 followed in his second round, before the Brokenhurst Manor player headed to Yeovil Golf Club for the final 36 holes of the competition.

A four-under-par 67 there gave him a six-stroke lead going into the last round, where he repeated the same score to close on a stunning total of 17-under par.

Oxley Park’s Robert Burlison finished second, with only a further five players finishing below par – further underlining the impressiveness of Singh-Brar’s effort.

The teenage star from Wellow said: “I knew I could go low round there [Sherborne], because, when I was 14, I shot seven-under, so I was trying to beat my own course record.

“I finished off with three birdies to get to seven-under, which got me on my way, and then I played pretty well for the next few rounds.

“I tried not to think about the six shots I had in the bag for the last round, and instead tried to concentrate on playing match play against the guy I was playing with.”

Singh-Brar was a slightly curious omission from the Great Britain & Ireland squad for next week’s Jacques Leglise Trophy match against the Continent of Europe, so he was particularly pleased to show some strong form here.

“I’m really pleased with how I’m playing, but I was a bit disappointed not to get picked for the Jacques Leglise, so winning this straight after was good,” he said
