RICHARD Bland has won his fight for European Tour survival.
The Stoneham professional finished tied 36th in the final event – the Perth International – of the regular season to finish 106th in the Race to Dubai standings, the top 110 retaining playing right for next season.
Although he enjoyed a cushion of nearly €13,000 to those outside the exempt spots ahead of the tournament, Bland kept in control of his own destiny by making the cut and going on to bank almost €10,000 in winnings.
The 40-year-old saved the best until last in Australia, carding a two-under 70 in his final round to move up 15 places. He shot earlier round of 75, 71 and 72.
The Southampton-based player finished his campaign with earnings close to €250,000, but missed a long stretch of the season because of injury, while he has had to endure the pain and discomfort of a meniscus tear for the last few weeks.
