Richard Bland believes Europe are in great shape with “rock-solid” Justin Rose in their Ryder Cup team.

Hampshire ace Bland believes his fellow county star will play a big part at Gleneagles this week, as Paul McGinley’s men look to retain the famous trophy.

Rose will be making his third appearance in the event, having enjoyed fantastic individual records in both 2008 and 2012.

“Justin’s such a good player, as he’s shown over the past five or six years,” said the Stoneham star.

“He’s a major champion and has won big events.

“He can play every game, because he’s just a rock-solid player.

“He’s a great foursomes partner, because he’ll put it in the fairway, hit greens and make putts.

“In the fourballs he’s not scared of going for it and trying to make birdies, so he’s such a great asset to have.

“He’s playing his third Ryder Cup now, and there’s a couple of guys who are maybe playing their first or second, so he can be a big help to them too.

“You know what you’re going to get with Justin. He’s not going to give holes away to silly mistakes, and that’s very important in match play.

“He’ll always make the other guy win the hole. I think Justin will do very well again.”

European Tour pro Bland is tipping Europe, who have won seven of the last nine Ryder Cups, to continue their recent dominance in the event.

“I think a lot of our players are playing a lot better than their players,” said Bland, who thinks US captain Tom Watson might regret overlooking in-form Billy Horschel for one of his wildcard picks.

“I think Paul McGinley got the picks right.

“I think picking Stevie Gallacher was absolutely spot on, and having one of their own there will excite the crowd even more.

“I fancy Europe by three or four.”
