MEON VALLEY teenage ace Harry Ellis will today bid to become the new English Amateur Champion.
The 16-year-old yesterday stormed through to the final of the prestigious tournament with an inspired display of golf at Silloth-on-Solway, in Cumbria.
Ellis beat England international Seb Crookall-Nixon by two holes in his morning quarterfinal and then produced a dramatic win in the semis against Wiltshire’s Jordan Smith, claiming the first extra hole after the pair had finished their match all square.
In a field featuring the best amateur golfers the country has to offer, Ellis admitted he could hardly believe what he had achieved.
“It’s unbelievable. It won’t sink in for a while,” he said. “Every round I have got through since the stroke play qualifying stage has been a bonus.”
