Dina Asher-Smith insists she has got the perfect platform to shine at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old is one of the favourites for the 200m on the Gold Coast after her stunning comeback last year.

She came fourth in the 200m at last summer’s World Championships – and won a relay silver – despite breaking her foot only six months before.

And the reigning European Champion feels ready to make an impact in Australia having not rushed to return to fitness and achieved a 2:1 in history from King’s College, London.

“I feel pretty happy. I had this conversation with my physio the other day, that I just feel happy,” she said.

“I have also finished uni which is one stress out of the way, even if I did love it.

“The impending doom of dissertation and exams has gone and my foot is no longer broken.

“I am not racing to get into shape this time, so yes, I am just happy and relaxed.

“It is a completely different circumstance and I just feel more confident within myself because I achieved something in such difficult circumstances last season.”

Asher-Smith prioritised the Gold Coast Games over last month’s World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

It was in contrast to GB team-mate CJ Ujah who opted for the World Indoors only to false start in the 100m semi final and be disqualified.

She said: “For me, I would have loved to do both. I love to compete. But I  wanted the opportunity to do the Commonwealth Games because I have never done it before and to me it has a lot of pedigree to it.

“The World Indoors does as well but I just fancied doing the Commonwealths really. As I learnt last year, you can’t just say I’ll be fine for next time, I’ll do it in 2022.

“I couldn’t have done both. If I was doing the 100m here it would have been different because it is less of a jump in distance from the 60m, but you add a bend and the training needs to be more specialised if I wanted to perform well.”
