King helps set world record in team pursuit
6:00pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in Olympic News
Dani King
Hampshire's Olympic gold medal cycling hope Dani King helped Great Britain smash the world record in qualifying for the women's team pursuit today.
The 21-year-old double world champion, from Hamble, posted a new best time of 3mins 15.669secs in the 3,000m event alongside teammates Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell.
The British girls now advance to the semi-final of the competition tomorrow, where they are due to face Canada.
The trio will be heavy favourites in the velodrome, having qualified nearly four seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.
King, Trott and Rowsell had set the previous world record earlier in the year.
And they will look to better it again tomorrow, as they bid to continue the British gold rush at the Games.
United States will face Australia in the other semi-final.
