Diverting a Saints fan’s attention away from the upcoming Premier League season is something that even an event as big as the London Olympics might struggle to manage.
But there is reason forsupporters to keep an eye on this summer’s Games, with midfielder Jack Cork representing the Great Britain team.
The 23-year-old was selected by his former England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce for the Olympic squad.
Cork, pictured, is missing pre-season with Saints as he bids to win a gold medal, providing the club’s fans with an extra reason to watch the football tournament – something that, given the poor ticket sales, is hardly drawing in the spectators.
There is additional Hampshire interest in the British team, with Manchester United's Basingstoke-born midfielder Tom Cleverley in the side.
