A Blackheath man died after one of 67 small packets of cocaine he had swallowed burst inside him.

Southwark Coroner's Court heard how Christopher Olurotimi Olugboyega George, aged 20, of Dando Crescent, had 634.7 grams of the drug in his digestive system, 390.8 grams of powder was 100 per cent pure cocaine.

Mr George was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, on October 21 last year, where he later died.

A post-mortem examination report by pathologist Dr David Rouse gave the cause of death as cocaine poisoning.

Frances-Mary DesDjimasse, a friend of Mr George, called emergency services after he started fitting while she was visiting him at home.

Neighbour Lucy Mapother said in a statement read in court that after the ambulance had left with Mr George she could hear suitcases being wheeled out and the sound of vacuuming.

All the occupants at the address had left and despite investigations regarding the cocaine, police have been unable to trace them.

Coroner Selena Lynch, who recorded a verdict of accidental death on March 13, said: "What a very sad thing for a young man. I'm quite satisfied he swallowed these packages in order to transport them."
