Old Mid-Whitgiftian 21

Eff'm & Leatherhead 19

Although the final score line was close, Mids dominated this London Two South fixture and should have won by a greater margin.

Mids early pressure created two missed penalty chances before Mids' winger, Rhys Jackson outpaced the cover to the line. Dan Crouch converted.

Sixteen minutes later, David Stanton touched down and Crouch converted to give the home side a 14-0 lead.

The second half started disastrously for the Mids when they conceded a converted score after just 11 minutes. Four minutes later, four Effingham backs attacked the blindside of a ruck, and ran in virtually unopposed. Five minutes later, Effingham held a 14-19 lead, when they scored from a rolling maul.

With 10 minutes to go, Mids began to batter the Effingham defence close to the visitors line.

Eventually Mids took a put-in against the head five meters out. Mids' No 8, Sean Garvey, was about to touch down for the push over try, when an Effingham player dived into the scrum and the referee awarded a penalty try.

Dan Crouch's conversion gave the home side a two-point lead which they kept up to the final whistle.
