A tight game was scripted for this early spring day with Borough just out of the relegation area and Heybridge well in, writes Tony Hooper .

Borough with the wind behind them were first to test a keeper as Swifts' Placid held Fabio Valenti's downward header in the penalty area from good wing play by Clemente Lopez.

Borough responded to Swifts bright start when Fitzsimon turned Hadrava on the right flank and his hard cross was deflected off Pat Gavin just past the nearside upright.

Adam Everitt's surging run from his own half into the visitors was harassed by back running Tomlinson but his shot hit the advancing Kersey and deflected to Valenti whose driven shot from 10 yards went across goal inches past the far post.

The best chance of the half fell to Lopez whose pacey run along the left side saw him cross the half-way line, beat two defenders, and as the tall Placid advanced out of goal saw his lob just picked out of the air. Lopez was again allowed to raid into the visitors area as his drive was blocked by Placid but the ball fell to Valenti whose return shot from eight yards was again blocked by the inform Placid and out to the marauding Lopez whose shot was pushed round the post.

On 67 minutes Dyer was fouled outside the area and his floated cross found Gavin whose downward header hit the back of the net past the unsighted Placid. Swifts came back and first Goddard headed over his bar to safety after a Budge shot and then Lopez scrambled a goal line clearance away.

On 84 minutes, Budge picking up a loose ball on the right outside Borough's area and with Goddard and Everitt in close attendance, made a diagonal run across the area and pivoted to fire left footed into the right corner giving Ferguson no chance.

With time running out for Boro Haule picked up a loose ball and surrounded by several defenders made room and slotted the ball out to Gavin on the edge of the area who drove the ball into the nearside corner of the goal, with Placid unsighted, to take the points.
