Tottonians had to battle every inch of the way for victory at lowly Teddington who have registered just one London 2 South-West win all season.

They had to be content to scrape home 10-7 against the table proppers in Middlesex.

Totts took the field without a recognised kicker and the first 25 minutes was error-strewn with numerous penalties awarded to both sides, whose kickers were unable to split the posts.

The visitors broke the deadlock when Harry Dolbear’s show-and-go saw him almost make the line but Mike Wisnewski was on hand to touch down, Mike Searle converting.

Teddington got back on level terms just before the break when their centre dotted down under the posts.

The second half continued in the same vein with Totts’ increased dominance at the scrum bringing them a few chances that they failed to exploit.

The only score of the half came with the last kick of the match – a penalty from Mike Searle which claimed victory.

Guildford showed why they are looking down on the rest of the league with a 32-10 home win over second-placed Gosport & Fareham.

Portsmouth’s bid to pull away from relegation stumbled when they lost 62-13 at Old Alleynians.
