Millbrook’s first XV finally get the opportunity to kick off their Snows Group Hampshire 1 season tomorrow.

Brook were handed five points when Team Solent failed to field a front row two weeks ago – despite great efforts by the students not to concede a walk-over – and were without a game last weekend.

Pre-season successes over clubs in leagues above them indicated good things for Millbrook and they have the chance to prove it when they face bottom side Isle of Wight at Five Acres.

“The start of the league season has been long awaited,” said captain Mike Randall.

“We look forward to getting our campaign off to a winning start, but are aware that no game is easy.”

Early season leaders Fordingbridge will be keen to notch up another win tomorrow.

Bridge have home advantage over Alton, who finished third from bottom last term but have kicked off with two wins – 34-14 at Romsey and a 31-10 at home to Farnborough.

Romsey head for US Portsmouth, who ran in a string of tries to beat IoW 65-14 in their first outing a week ago.

In Snows Group Hampshire 2, Fawley RFC take on Ventnor at their new headquarters – well, almost.

The Waterside club has moved up the road to Newlands Park after decades at the Waterside Sports & Social Club (formerly Esso).

They will have two pitches at Newlands Park after Christmas but, until then, games will be played at neighbouring Gang Warily and bar facilities shared with Blackfield & Langley FC.

“The main reason for the move is to build our own clubhouse and increase club membership,” said a spokesman.

New members are welcome – from six years through to seniors. See www.fawleyrfc.co.uk for more information.
