WINCHESTER chalked up their second derby victory on the trot when they defeated newly-promoted Andover 22-7.

It was a bruising, stop-start London South-West 2 encounter at North Walls.

The game was dominated by the ‘All Blacks’ big, physical pack in the early stages but was countered by the home side’s speed and mobility in open play.

It was also littered with errors from both sides.

Winch went into the lead with a try from centre Johnny Morris.

However, Andover were a couple of points ahead two minutes later when inside centre Fee Ratu made the most of a break from scrum half Kieran Jenvey and Alex Kane converted.

Winchester, though, went into the break with a one-point lead after a Morris penalty.

Andover infringements led to several penalties for Winchester in the second half and, from one of them, Winch collected another seven points after Greg Sullivan placed down under the posts following a penalty lineout.

The visitors also had to play six minutes with 13 players after two were yellow carded.

Winch replacement flanker Frank Bagnall finished off the scoring when he dived under the posts and Morris converted.

Winchester coach Andy Fields welcomed the success, but also had some words of warning for his side.

He said: “We’ll take the win, but not scoring the fourth try that we could and should have cost us a bonus point.

“London Cornish [this weekend’s opponents] are a well-coached and talented team with a good collective spirit.

“We won’t beat them if we make so many mistakes in contact and squander so many scoring chances.”
