EASTLEIGH have moved themselves off the bottom of London 3 South-West with defeat over New Milton & District who now replace them at the foot of the table.

It was an impressive victory from Eastleigh who turned over their fellow Hampshire opponents 41-17 in the New Forest.

But they did not have it all their own way as Milton ran in three tries to keep themselves in touch for much of the match.

Phil Baldwin got the visitors on the scoreboard with a penalty and they went 10-0 ahead when he converted a try from Eastleigh’s man of the match Sam Prout.

Milton struck back with a try from Dalton Thomas and an Adam Lavis conversion but Eastleigh moved away again as Rich O’Donnell touched down.

The sides took turns to go over the whitewash after the break – a try from Eastleigh wing Matt Blackman cancelled out by Milton’s top player Dale Smith and five points from visiting captain Paul Fudio countered by the home side’s Brendan Treacey.

That prompted a stern word from Eastleigh head coach Phil Osman and not another point was conceded by his side. Instead Eastleigh moved away with a second try from O’Donnell and one from Nic Blake which was converted by Baldwin.

Trojans were disappointed to come away from Teddington without a win and had to be content with a losing bonus point in a 25-19 defeat.

The game did not start well for the Stoneham Lane based side. Teddington kicked off, the ball bounced through the Trojans formation, was picked up by an opposition winger who ran through to score in the corner in just 19 seconds.

But Trojans were in front after three minutes – Jobi Kochanowski made a break, passed to Neal Howarth who put Chris Boyd on a great run to score, with Dan Woods converting.

Teddington hit back with a converted try and were stopped from being further ahead with a great last-ditch tackle by winger Will Page. Another penalty though put Teddington 13-7 up at half time.

Second-placed Teddington touched down again after the break but back came Trojans with a try from Neal Haworth who dived over in the corner.

Trojans kept up the pressure and crossed the Teddington line twice only for the ball to be held up but were then rewarded with a penalty try converted by Woods.

With the score at 20-19 to Teddington, the nine minutes of stoppage were tense and Trojans piled on the pressure, only to let the hosts through at the death to get another goal.
