Winchester 44 Old Reigatian 15

Winchester are second in London 2 South-West after this comprehensive win - but know their stay is likely to be short-lived.

Winch got the better of regular opponents Old Reigatian at North Walls to leapfrog London Cornish, whose match was postponed due to the condition of Portsmouth’s pitch.

Cornish are now a point behind Winchester but with three games in hand and have only dropped two league matches this season.

However Winch will be happy to have run in six tries against Old Reigatian, four of them from their backs, on a soggy and boggy home ground.

Connor Breen put Winch on the board with a penalty shortly before Jake Hiscock placed down under the posts following good work by Number 8 Frank Bagnall and fly-half Pat Cheshire.

Winch turned around 13-3 up before producing a flurry of tries.

Adam Dye and Tom Forster both got the ball over the whitewash but determined Old Reigatian replied with tries of their own each time.

But they never troubled the scoreboard again as replacement Rob Rees brought up Winchester’s bonus-point fourth try, Matt Lown made it five and Hiscock celebrated his second in time added on.
