NEW Milton & District’s determination has been rewarded with their first league win of the season.

The New Forest side have been knocking on the door of victory recently and followed up a close call against US Portsmouth with a 29-27 success over Old Tiffinians at Ashley Rec.

Milton trailed 15-10 at half time - Ben Russell and debutant and scrum half Jack O’Regan touching down either side of a couple of tries, one converted, and a penalty by OTs.

Three tries after the break, from Ben Russell, George Slattery and Jack Evemy and a couple of conversions by Dalton Thomas got Milton in front.

Back came Tiffs with a couple of tries and a conversion but Milton’s forwards dug in over the final quarter and defended well to give the team and supporters a well-earned victory.

Milton remain locked in secondfrom-bottom place ahead Purley John Fisher who could not field a side at home to Farnham at the weekend and handed their opponents an away walk over.

However, things are looking up for Trojans who recorded their second win in three games with a 44-5 victory over Old Mid-Whitfgiftian.

The welcome win puts the Stoneham Park side on the shoulders of neighbours Eastleigh – behind on points difference and with a game in hand.

Importance Trojans knew the importance of the match, with just points separating the sides at the start of the game. But, with the wind and rain in their favour, they were on the scoreboard inside minute - full back Guy Parsley diving over.

On 20 minutes Nik Wotton added three points with a penalty and then converted a try by wing Will Page from the restart following a tremendous 50-metre sprint from second row James Herbert.

Scrum half Toogi Long increased the lead when he kicked long into open space and won the race to touch down. He was back over the line minutes later, making the most of a break from captain Joby Kochanowski.

Trojans turned around 27-0 ahead but had to face the elements, as well as their shell-shocked visitors who quickly mauled their way over the line.

The pressure continued for another ten minutes before Trojans’ second row Greg Parratt crashed over and Wotton slotted home the extras.

A well-organised Trojans’ pack and sensible close play by the backs finished off any chance of a comeback from Old Mid-Whitgiftian.

Phil Smith added another two tries for the home side from strong rucking and mauling.
