Just no stopping Jobi and Trojans

Trojans continued their victorious charge, outplaying and outclassing leaders Guildford.

The 28-13 win – which included a hat-trick of tries for Jobi Kochanowski – gave the Stoneham Lane side their tenth success in 11 league games and cost their opponents top place in the table.

Guernsey moved back into pole position of London 2 South-West but Trojans secured the third slot that they have worked so hard for to give them a boost ahead of next Saturday’s clash with fourth-placed Tottonians.

Trojans gave away a few early penalties on Saturday and Guildford took advantage of just one of them before the home side stepped up a gear and dominated every phase of play.

Simon Greenhalgh got Trojans in front and he was followed over the line by Kochanowski before an exchange of penalties took the score to 16-6 at half-time.

Kochanowski used his pace to score the try of the game after the break and he was fed from a scrum close to the Guildford line in the dying minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Delighted coach Barry Bridgman said: “Team was awesome – our best all round performance against good opposition.

“We played them off the park, they only did what they were allowed to do.

“Defensively we were absolutely rock solid, they only got two shots at goal and didn’t ever look like they were going to get over the line.”

Tottonians were asked to go out and produce nothing less than a bonus-point win against lowly KCS Old Boys – and they did that in style.

KCS put up little opposition against a determined Totts squad that was still feeling the disappointment of defeat from the previous weekend.

The little resistance that was mustered by the visitors was crushed by Tottonians’ pack which fed hungry backs who produced 12 tries in a 76-0 rout.

Richard Buck led the way by crossing the line five times in a game of one-way traffic.

Scott Rogers helped himself to a hat-trick and there were singles for Dave Wood, Mike Searle, Paul Brading and Luke Richardson.

The victory will be seen as a much-needed morale-booster ahead of next weekend’s important clash with Trojans.

Despite the one-sided score KCS did manage to threathen the Totts’ line a couple of times.

Tottonians stalwart Bill Barnes said: “They had their moments and twice they came worringly close to scoring. It is nice to record a high-scoring victory but there was little offered defensively or offensively by our visitors.”

Gosport & Fareham went some way to making sure they spend another season at this level with a 26-3 home win over Effingham & Leatherhead.

Patrick Mulholland got the ball rolling for Gos when he crossed the line and Wayne Dugan claimed a hat-trick before being shown a yellow card late in the game.

Director of rugby Janie Daly said: “This was the first of three critical games and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. I hope this will set us up for the run-in to the end of the season.”
