Millbrook lost 16-7 to Romsey in a tight, wind-swept game that was notable for the skills of both teams in atrocious conditions.
Romsey took the game to their hosts and even with the wind against them showed their top of the table class. But Millbrook's forwards, marshalled by scrum half Alan Day, were in no mood to lie down. Ferocious tackling from Dean Weaver and Mike Mulchahy kept the Romsey forward thrusts at bay. Neat work out of defence saw Millbrook come close to opening the scoring but a nice inside pass down the blindside by open side Weaver sadly went to ground with an overlap begging to score. In the last minute of the first half a lovely run by Graham Noble saw him weave his way half the length of the pitch prior to the ball being fed back to his forwards for them to go the last ten metres with a rolling maul to score. Hooker Ben Hewitt emerging with the ball. Now with the wind at their backs Romsey took the game to Millbrook. A Noble penalty increased the lead then another attack down the left looked to have further increased the lead only for Mike Randall to intercept the pass and sprint away to score. Another penalty by replacement full back Dave Newhall increased the lead. Millbrook were not set back by this and their forwards were starting to get the upper hand as they went for the win. Unfortunately a split ball in the tackle allowed Romsey's defence to turn into attack and the ball was quickly fed wide for Andy Stewart to score.
Afterwards Romsey coach Brian Musk said: "You don't come to Millbrook and expect an easy game, both teams played the conditions well."
Millbrook's Jim Brown said: "We have now got some good young players in the side and they are learning. With a little more composure we should be able to develop as a team."
Eastleigh brushed aside Nomads 55-0 and now only need victory over Aldershot & Fleet to be crowned champions.
Southampton won a scrappy game 14-3 away to Fareham Heathens in a mud bath. Tries from Julian Robbins and a piece of individual brilliance from captain Marcus Coffin along with two Dave Griffith's conversions sealed the victory.

Fordingbridge lost 25-18 to league champions Ellingham & Ringwood. After sustaining heavy pressure Bridge took the lead through a Dan Brown try. Matt Norton converted and added a penalty and a drop goal to put the away side 13 points up. A pick and drive for the line out gave the hosts seven points. Early in the second half Ellingham struck again to take the lead. Andy Weeks then added a penalty before Fordingbridge fought back with a nice run by fly half Matt Norton drawing the cover to set Dee Stone clear to score. Sadly Bridge gave into tremendous Ellingham pressure to let the lead slip in the last quarter.

I thought the Millbrook/Romsey game was really good, despite the conditions. I believe the match was a lot close than the match report leads to beleive, with both teams putting pressure on each other in equal amounts, with all try's coming from break away's or silly mistakes. Romsey will do well in Hants 1 next season and I believe Millbrook will be joining them in 1 years time as champs of Hants 2
