SIR Ben Ainslie was back on the water today - just weeks after playing a major role in Team Oracle’s sensational America’s Cup win.
The Lymington-based sailing superstar is this week competing in the Argo Group Gold Cup in Bermuda, the penultimate regatta in the 2013 Alpari World Match Racing Tour.
Among Ainslie’s crew in his team is another Hampshire-based Olympic gold medallist, Southampton-born Iain Percy.
Other luminaries from the 34th America’s Cup will also be racing in Bermuda including Italians Francesco Bruni and Luna Rossa.
Luna Rossa Team Principal Patrizio Bertelli has already announced his intention to challenge for the 35th America’s Cup.
Bruni last competed on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour over 2010-11, finishing second to Southampton’s Ian Williams in 2011.
Williams is currently leading the tour overall, and is in the same Group 2 qualifying section in Bermuda as Ainslie.
The Argo Group Gold Cup is the highlight of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club’s annual regatta calendar.
