HE may have won four Olympic gold medals and an America's Cup but Sir Ben Ainslie couldn't get the better of fellow Hampshire sailor and reigning world match racing champ Ian Williams.

The pair, both from Lymington, went head to head at the Bermuda Gold Cup, the penultimate event of the World Match Racing Tour, with Williams coming off the victor.

However both teams were set to go through to the quarter final stages of the event.

Sir Ben is racing alongside Iain Percy, Matt Cornwell and Christian Kamp, the same line-up that won the World Match Racing Tour in 2010.

The team are competing as Ben Ainslie Racing Team in memory of Andrew 'Bart' Simpson, who tragically lost his life in the warm-up to the America's Cup.

Four time world champion Williams won each of his eight qualifying races to go through to the quarters in first.

The event runs until Sunday (Oct13).
