After more than 40,000 miles, and 40 weeks of ocean racing, they are set to arrive where they set off just under a year ago, having cast off from Den Helder in the Netherlands yesterday.

The yachts are due to arrive in St Katharine’s Docks, London, tomorrow morning.

Of the 30 sailors competing from Hampshire, ten have completed the whole journey.

They include Steve Mabey, 47, Charles Slater, 39, Dave Richards, 64, Kate Hepworth, 40, Charles Pickering, 58, and one of the youngest competitors, Jacob Carter, 21.

Thousands people are expected to welcome them and the other crews, made up of more than 40 nationalities.

St Katharine Docks will host the welcome home party in the race village.
