LEIGH McMillan has vowed to be “ready for anything” as he prepares to mount his challenge for the 2014 Extreme Sailing Series title.

The Hampshire sailor’s crew on The Wave Muscat are just one point behind the overall leaders, Swiss team Alinghi, going into the penultimate stage of the tour in Nice, France.

The venue is known for chucking up a range of weather conditions from light winds to strong, testing breezes.

And McMillan, the 2012 and 2013 world champion, said every point counts as he attempts to reel in Alinghi ahead of the series finale.

McMillan, from Southampton, said: “Nice can be a whole variety of conditions, so we have to be ready for anything.

“We just need to continue the form we have had for the last two events. We are always improving and working well as a team, so more of the same is the aim.”

“The events are too long with too many races to be concerned with one boat, but as the end approaches, we will have Alinghi in our sights.”

Racing kicks off tomorrow and runs until Sunday.
