Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston was last night in seventh place in a singlehanded sprint across the Atlantic.
The 75-year-old circumnavigator was around 160 miles behind class leader Andrea Mura after five days of racing in the Route du Rhum.
He is competing against 19 other sailors in the Rhum class for boats up to 60ft in length.
Portsmouth-based Sir Robin, pictured, who became the fist person ever to sail single-handed around the world without stopping in 1969, still had 3,000 miles left to sail in the race from France to Guadeloupe.
The race is expected to take around three weeks to complete.
