Iain Mackinnon scooped the prestigious Champions of Champions award at the Royal Southern Yacht Club award evening in Hamble.

The top prize went to the owner and helm of the Tigh Soluis boat after his impressive performances on the way to winning the hotly contested J109 series.

Sixty five trophies and various silverware as well as 116 pieces of glassware were dished out in recognition of sailing achievements.

One special award went to 19-year-old Royal Southern Academy member Annabel Vose, who was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy.

The young sailor has progress considerably and is now an academy member competing on the women's international match racing stage.

She also skippered Southampton University's Great British entry to gold in the FISU student yachting worlds.

Meanwhile, Phil Farrands of Old Mother Gun, was handed the Geoff Kaye Trophy.

James Wilkie won the John Beardsley Trophy, in recognition of becoming the first young chairman of the academy.

There was a special mention for ten year-old Archie Primrose, grandson of Angus and his widow Murlo Primrose.

The youngster singlehandedly raised £360 for Bart's Bash.

Mackinnon’s prize includes a trip Barbados, thanks to sponsors Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc, during the Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race in January.

There he will get the opportunity to race in the competition and stay in luxury accommodation.

The glamorous awards evening was hosted by the club's Rear Commodore Sailing, Karen Henderson-Williams and included a welcome from the Commodore David Mead.

Paralympic London 2012 gold medallist Helena Lucas was the guest of honour.

The 35-year-old presented the prizes and later gave an insight into her paralympic campaign and her hopes for Rio 2016.
