HAMPSHIRE sailor Ian Williams has secured his place in history after winning a record fifth World Match Racing Tour title.

The Lymington-based ace and his GAC Pindar crew went into the Monsoon Cup, the final event of the tour, knowing victory in the semi-final would secure the biggest prize.

And they led from start to finish, securing the title and $100,000 prize money.

Williams, who previously won the title in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012, overtakes Australian sailor Peter Gilmour who also had four titles.

He described the victory as “a dream come true” and said it was “an incredible feeling” to become the most successful skipper of all time.
