HAMPSHIRE race ace Leigh McMillan returned to winning ways in the Extreme Sailing Series after breezing to victory in the second stage.

McMillan, from Southampton, led his Oman-sponsored crew to victory on home waters of Muscat in Act 2 of the series.

It was the first win of the season for McMillan's two-time world championship-winning crew - and a welcome boost to their bid for the 2015 title having been pipped to first place last year.

McMillan said: “We had a really last tough day and Team SAP were sailing much better than us.

“We had to dig deep and we knew it would come down the last race, all we had to do was beat them or they beat us.

"Everyone on the boat kept pushing hard to make the best of the situation and in the end we got the result, but it wasn’t easy. It’s pretty exhausting winning like this – lots of highs and lows but we managed to pull it off in the end."

The next round of racing takes place in Qingdao, China, in late April.
