HAMPSHIRE's Nick Thompson is one of eight sailors to have been selected by Great Britain to compete in next year's Rio Olympic Games.

It is a first call-up for the Southampton-born Laser world champion, 29, who is based in Lymington.

Giles Scott has the task of following in Sir Ben Ainslie's footsteps in the Finn class.

Windsurfer Bryony Shaw and Alison Young (Laser Radial) are also Rio-bound.

London 2012 470 silver medallists Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills have also been included, while Luke Patience and Elliot Willis join forces for the 470 men's event.
