SIR Ben Ainslie's America's Cup team has announced a new partnership with former Cowes Week sponsors Aberdeen Asset Management.

Ainslie's Hampshire-based Land Rover BAR crew have brought the investment group onboard as 'performance partner' in a three year deal.

The team says it will use the collaboration to overhaul the way it collects and uses data, both in sporting terms and financially.

"It is fantastic for us to have Aberdeen Asset Management on board as performance partner," Ainslie said.

"From our initial conversations it's obvious there is an alignment between the ways we both go about our business; seeking to optimise data acquisition, storage and analysis strategies to gain a competitive edge.

"The Land Rover BAR team can certainly help Aberdeen reach a new audience and we look forward to working with them over the next three years to explore the ways in which we both use data to get us over the line ahead of our competitors."

Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, added: "Together with Land Rover BAR we are used to analysing the best routes to take in challenging conditions, and we're proud to be able to share insights with them as they prepare to hopefully bring the Cup back to where we think it belongs."

Ainslie's team is currently in Bermuda as the countdown to the 35th America's Cup continues.

A series of round robin-style races will begin at the end of May to determine which of the five challenging teams will go up against current cup holders Team USA.

If Land Rover BAR win the America's Cup they would be the first British team ever to do so.
