The Royal Southern Yacht Club’s Motor Boat Division has confirmed the schedule of activities for its 12th year of hosting the ever-popular Open Motor Boat Weekend, taking place 27-29 May 2011.
Entries are being encouraged from individuals as well as team entries of three boats. There are a number of classes for both individuals and teams including the three boat Inter-Club Team Trophy. There is also a separate course for RIBs who will be competing for the EP Barrus RIB Trophy.
The Open Motor Boat Weekend incorporates three practical tests of seamanship, including a Predicted Log and a Poker Run, all taking place within the Solent. Berthing has been reserved in Cowes Yacht Haven over lunch on Saturday 28th May and there will be an opportunity to go ashore before the afternoon Poker Run return to the Royal Southern Yacht Club. As well as a range of fun and practical boating activities, there is also a terrific social programme commencing with supper on the Friday night and followed by the Saturday night dinner with live music. Following Sunday’s Treasure Hunt competition, a lunch and prize-giving event will take place at the Royal Southern Yacht Club. The competitors will enjoy the relaxed ambiance and hospitality of the Royal Southern in what has become an essentially friendly weekend for those of a motor boating persuasion.
The Royal Southern Yacht Club has invited a selected number of motor boat distributors to enter the C-Quip Predicted Log as a separate class. The winning distributor boat will be awarded the C-Quip Marine Distributor Trophy. Fleming Yachts is the first distributor to have confirmed their entry of a Fleming 65 Motor Yacht .
There are a number of partners involved in making the Open Weekend a success including C-Quip, GJW Direct, SeaStart, and Coastline RIBs. Coastline’s Carole Gould commented: “Coastline RIBs are delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Royal Southern Open Motor Boat Weekend and are keen to promote RIB owners’ interests in this event for the EP Barrus Trophy.”
