Aviva's Dee Caffari and Nigel King are running high on adrenaline and sacrificing sleep in their bid for boat speed Light airs in the slow haul south to Finisterre have forced Dee and Nigel to stay mainly on deck, hand steering and trying to second guess what the fickle wind will do next as it shifts from north east to east.

It has now become the tradition to hold Hamble River Sailing Club's annual Charity Pursuit Race on the middle Sunday of the Garmin Hamble Winter Series, and a reasonable quorum of boats motored out to the starting area despite an obvious lack of wind.

Dee Caffari and Nigel King eye up the competition

On Saturday 3 November British yachtswoman Dee Caffari and her co-skipper Nigel King will start the highly competitive Transat Jacques Vabre race, from France to Brazil, onboard Open 60 racing yacht Aviva. The Transat Jacques Vabre (TJV) is one of this year's most anticipated offshore races and the two British sailors will be lining up alongside 17 other 60-foot racing yachts off the coast of Le Havre. The 4,340-mile course, following the historic coffee trade route, will be Caffari's first transatlantic race of the Aviva Ocean Racing campaign.

Garmin Hamble Series latest

Despite the wind finding it hard to get up early in the morning, the Hamble River Sailing Club race officers successfully started a total of 47 races to provide an excellent weekend of racing for 15 classes.
