A HUGE spinnaker emblazoned with the London 2012 Olympic logo will be flown at The Needles to mark the handover of the games from Beijing.

A 32ft Seaquest yacht, crewed by Isle of Wight youngsters, will sail to the Island's famous landmark on Sunday for the hand over.

The crew will hoist the spinnaker at 3.30pm before sailing to Cowes to meet Isle of Wight Council leader Councillor David Pugh as well as future Olympic stars.

Cllr Pugh said: "The raising of the Handover Flag is a historic moment marking London's status as the next city to host the Olympic Games and the Isle of Wight is proud to be taking part in the flag-raising ceremony."
