A heartbreaking defeat for Saints, who deserved a point but left empty handed.
After a goalless first half, in which Saints played a fantastic defensive game, City took the lead thanks to an own goal from Virgil van Dijk, who could do nothing but deflect Kevin De Bruyne's free kick from the left into the net.
Saints dusted themselves off, though, and with 15 minutes left a bit of genius from Sofiane Boufal saw Saints level, as the Moroccan produced a deft touch and cut back to find Oriol Romeu to slam home.
Raheem Sterling netted an added time winner, making it 12 Premier League wins in a row for Manchester City.
Saints will feel gutted by the late goal, but can hold their heads high in terms of perfromance.
