St Mary’s could host two high profile concerts a year if Saints get their way.

Last summer’s blockbuster headline act of Robbie Williams ended a long wait for music to return to the stadium, and its success has helped pave the way for rock legends the Rolling Stones to appear in May.

The concerts generate revenue for the football club, who are also keen to help promote the city and embrace the wider economic boom experienced by hosting such major events.

Saints managing Toby Steele explained: “The revenues are reasonable. They are not as big as people might expect as what we are doing generally is hiring out the stadium.

“We get some food and beverage revenue but the biggest thing for us is that it helps grow the profile of the club for future events.

“Robbie Williams helped put us back on the map because we hadn’t done a concert for a number of years and that helps us then to get the Rolling Stones, which is great.

“What we would like to do is look and see whether we can get two concerts a year.

“We also had the World’s Strongest Man last year and we have that again this year.

“It’s about raising the profile of the club from a commercial basis but also about raising the profile of the city.

“We work very closely with the council in terms of the approvals for those concerts and we know it improves their profile and the economy of the city as well if we can bring somebody like Robbie Williams or the Rolling Stones to the city. It can only help benefit everybody.”
