Proud Pardew says it's a great day for us Proud Pardew says it's a great day for us

ALAN Pardew declared ‘this is a start – a good start’ after watching Saints hammer Carlisle 4-1 to lift the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this afternoon.

The Saints boss said: "We did a professional job out there.

"We had a side out that we haven’t played a lot lately, and we looked a bit lop-sided at times – but our discipline came through."

Of man of the match Rickie Lambert, Pardew said: "They couldn’t deal with him today.

"Rickie has been a credit to himself and to the club this season – he’s great in the dressing room.

"But it’s a great day for us – the fans were tremendous and I’m glad we’ve given them something to cheer.

"We’ve given them a trophy – ok, it’s not the biggest trophy – but it’s a trophy.

"There’s bigger trophies in this team waiting to be won, but this is a start – a good start."

So proud of Saints. It might be the JPT but I can honestly say I feel just as happy and proud as I did that day in May 76!!

Had to give up my tickets and watch on tv holding my 6 day old Son. Son. Brilliant professional job. Many congrats to the boys in particular RL and AP. All of this rubbish about AP being under threat should stop. The Guy has taken us from near oblivion to actually winning something. He hinted, quite rightly, that this is the start of something. he has the personel and hopefully the backing of NC. Well done Alan thanks for being so refreshingly honest whenever you speak.......win our remaining 9 games and maybe I could make a Wembley date in May.

Fabulous win!!! I am disappointed that when we were 4-0 up Pards didn't give Bart an appearance. If it wasn't for Bart's superb goalkeeping when KD was injured (remember the Norwich game?) we wouldn't have been there.

Love Bart too!
Why change the goalie unless injured?
KD came off his line when he had to.
Did a great job..Nuff said in my opinion ;-)

Well done AP...A great day out.... well done Saints. Deserved to win despite changes due to players being cup-tied. What would the score have been if Barnard and Puncheon had played?

I only hope that the moaners don't come out if we do not reach the play-offs because this has been a very positive season after a rocky start. A year ago we were almost doomed and were relegated, twelve months later the fans are positive and optimistic. Roll on next season and thank you Mr Liebherr.

Yep - KD was great - no problem. I just think that Bart should have been given an appearance....we had won by then. You can all give me stick for this......but someone has to recognise Bart's great efort in all of this....COYR

The beaming faces of Nicola and Markus as they embraced Alan Pardew made 2010 for me. Matt Le Tiss Said he hoped Nicola didn't spoil the hard work done by the best manager in the league as the team was going places with Alan Pardew. Earlier he said how hard it would have been for Alan to explain to a non-football director why they couldn't get three points from a sodden bog of a pitch on a Tuesday night. I think the faces dispelled everything the media hyped.

Saints are solid from top to bottom undoubtedly the best run outfit in Britain.

Great display and a great result, but lets keep the momentum going with another 3 point at Brighton!
Although its a big ask we still have a slim chance of making the play-offs, but a lot rides on other teams results. But whatever happens this season has been a breath of fresh air compared to last year, just happy ML arrived in the nick of time. If we're still in League 1 at the end of the season its a safe bet we're be promoted as champions next year!

Have you ever seen MLT look so smart. According to his autobiography he doesn't do ties.

Looked like he was ready for his first day at school!!

Sorry Pards but that trophy is bloomin' huge!!! Bigger than the FA cup!! Took three players to lift it at the presentation!!!

May have to extend the St Mary's trophy cabinet for it to fit!!! ha ha

From Canada comes the shout, well done "Saint's, players, staff and fans that has turned our club into a Winner. Let us continue down the road towards the Premiership were we rightly belong. However be prepared for it to take a few years.

What a day - enjoyed it all the way - worth coming back from Liberia for! It was also quite nice to see my son get married today, lucky he picked the day after a Wembley final, as that meant I was here...

The only down side for me was that I met the walkers at the tube station, and I was rushed off by my brothers and their urge to get to the pub before I could say hello properly. And I couldn't meet slugger, as they said he was still a mile away, the lazy sod!

So, to the guys I did meet, sorry I didn't stop for a chat - but there's always the next Wmebley final!

And Dave, I should have realised that you were footso!

I said that as well! Pity he couldn't come on after he got us there! **** good game and even better result though. Plus, I missed the Carlisle goal coz I was in the loo so I missed the only bad point of the match lol!

Well done Saint's and everyone connected to the club, great day out and superb result. The fans have been outstanding all season and I know the players and management in particular were desparate to reward that by winning this trophy, and they truly delivered all be it with half a dozen regular first team players missing for various reasons! I think it's testament to ap and his management where the club currently finds itself and we have made massive improvements on and off the field which has built some good foundations. This football club is truly on the way back up, I hope we don't make the play-offs because we can then enter the jpt again and go back to wembley next season and defend our title whilst also taking the League 1 championship as well? Having supported this club through the very dark times as many others have yesterday re-paid that to some extent and I'm confident more success isn't far away either.

Almost everything about this is brilliant but to follow on from a couple of points above it is always disappointing for some players. Bart has been mentioned and yes, he does deserve something for what he did when KD was injured. So does Morgan. I was gutted for him that he didn't even make the bench, and I hope there's nothing sinister in him not being there. Wayne Thomas injured too and he did well in some early rounds of the cup.
.
Wembley was a sea of red and white; the sound of Saints fans loud and clear. Certainly made the hairs on my neck stand up. I shed a tear at the end - everything was just so damned happy!! Nicola, Markus, Alan just all seemed so right. Tell you something I liked; the way one of the team came back and handed AP the cup for him to raise it aloft - and the stadium erupted!!!
.
What about the farce of all those empty seats - We could have sold another 10,000 - Wembley making the seg. excuse!!!
.
Future's bright . . . . . COYRS!!!!
