ORGANISERS of a giant party for Saints fans at Wembley, which has come under fire from ticket holders, say they only encountered problems because revellers were eager to have a good time.
Held at Silver Spoons just metres away from the stadium, the party for 2,000 fans has been criticised for not giving punters the cheaper food and drink that they paid for.
But organiser Nick Illingsworth, of the Saints Trust, said that the party was a success and only ran into difficulty because many fans were drinking so much beer.
Tickets were sold for the party, which started at 9am on Sunday morning, at £10 each with a special offer at the bar for three pints of beer for £10.

But dozens of revellers have complained about the event.
One who wished to remain anonymous said: “Having paid a tenner on the promise of cheaper food and drink, I was surprised to find that the drink (what little drink they actually had available) was actually more expensive than most of the pubs in the area.
“There was no food available at all, although judging by the state of the place, that may not have been a bad thing.”
Illingsworth, right, who runs Come On You Reds! which organised the event and sold tickets on their website, said the party was inspected by police, trading standards and licensing officials who were all happy with what they saw.
“The problem was it was a victim of its own success,” he said.
“People were there from 9.30am and they were drinking more beer than the bar could cope with.
“They even had to go buy more in the form of cans to provide enough beer.”

Illingsworth said the food was also provided by specially set up catering vans and a takeaway next door which offered food at cheaper prices than those at Wembley.
“The vast majority of the fans present seemed brimming with the “spirit” of the day and like ourselves concentrated on enjoying the occasion,” he said.
“But, inevitably as at any event, some are bound to have experienced less than their expectation.
“In this case Silver Spoons itself was taken by surprise by the sheer exuberance of Saints supporters.
“They have had so called bigger clubs than Saints in recent years, but none had displayed the capacity to drink and be merry that Saints supporters showed on Sunday.”

sorry silly pc, anyway I am horrified that you state that the police, trading standards and the trading standards were happy with this hell hole, have you got the contacts for these organsiations as I would love to speak to them in person as I just simply don't believe what you are saying.
It was a good idea in principle and thanks for tring but I would rather pay the prices inside the stadium and be able to enjoy the atmosphere in safety than ever witness another shambles like this. I want my money back.

Apparently Police and Trading Standards have refused Silverspoons a licence after a number of breaches of regulations.
Rumour is a well known East London firm, currently residing along the South Coast are the Mr Big's behind the club!!!

Nick you should be utterly ashamed for putting Saints fans through that disgrace.Never in all my years of going to football have i been ripped off with a place like that.It was a f***ing Pit hole Packed solid could get no where near the bar,Hotter then Arizona and prices shocking for tin cans.Beer ran out and people were pi**ing in all corners. It was a disgrace and why in the hell were they selling tickets at the door.
How he went there last year and decided thats a great place for us Saints Fans I'll never Know.Your a disgrace but i bet some one made a few quid in it.

the venue is one of Londons top hot spots, the DJ would surly be touted for a top post on national radio, only 30-40 mins wait for a refreshing pint, & the bouncers were polite when taking your money :-)

The venue was overcrowded. It took me 38 minutes to get a drink. The DJ was atricious. The TV clips consisted of an intermittent Sky 2 feed, no food, not enough beer and poor bar service ( only 9 bar staff, but they were very slow). Ex -players ( were?)
the carlisle fans were havng a better time with cans on the concourse!.
Contrast with wemberlee £4 for a pint - wait time nothing.
How that venue passed a fire test ?
There must have been another 200 outside the exits lookiing for fresh air.
I can handle a bit of crowding or a busy pub, but that events just made us all look like mugs. No one inthe 20 + supporters group I was with has a good word to say.
Poor venue, poor planning, good location. Not going back - will be looking for a refund.

Sadly for NI he is recognised as the face of COYR and the others will be able to slink away and not face the same aggrovation that NI is likely to get by disgruntled punters. The way it has been handled has inflamed the 'party goers' as they have tried to side step rather than hold their hands up.
I suggest anyone who bought tickets by PayPal or credit card put in complaints and the quantity will alert these people to the problem and quickly withhold any money due.
As for the Echo, you have also been damaged by the promotion of the event and then the publication of the statement without actually questionng the uproar it has caused. Find another spokesman, perhaps Daren Wheeler who seems to be fair minded IMO

* Getting N.I. to apologies publically. His statement 'the majority enjoyed themselves' is incorrect. Fact is fans were in high spirits any way and enjoyed themselves in SPITE of the venue. Had we lost the game I think club 2000 would of taken a hammering from fans venting frustration.
*Give Nick and his cronies no more paper space. He is seen as a laughable Danny Dyer wannabe and his views are not creditable, He couldn't play football and knows little about it.
* Most importantly spread the word so no more fans from any teams suffer the same fate at the hands of these london yobs who put lives at risk by pocketing tenners at the door, The Echo could seriously save lives.
