Until we hear about a deal to buy Saints, Mike Osman and I am getting on with rounding up the 30 or so players needed to put on the celebrity game at St Mary’s next Sunday, May 17 with a kick-off at 12 noon.

It has been priced sensibly at £20 adults, £10 concessions and £5 for children with special offers in the boxes so that your basic, solid supporter has the opportunity to help the club whilst getting a couple of hours of entertainment in return.

As I have said before and really want to repeat, a separate account has been set up via one of our local legal firms so that if a new owner was to take over before the game the money on the day could be used for things such as Saints in the Community.

We had a meeting of staff at St Mary’s who will be needed to help out and arrange the organisation of the game.

We were delighted to hear matchday staff such as Stuart and Simon were giving their services free - many thanks to them.

I was a bit shocked and disappointed really when I asked the question ‘how many did they think would come in for the game?’ I was told probably about only 4,000-5,000.

Remember, it is for the club and possibly the survival of the club ongoing and an opportunity to see once again most of the 1976 Cup legends plus many other ex-players including Le Tissier.

Also the chance to appear on the pitch and join in the crossbar challenge.

I saw Matt play at Eastleigh recently in the David Hughes testimonial and he still has the natural skills which we all admired so much.

If anything, as I pulled his leg, his playing weight is probably better now than it was in those days.

It is possibly something to do with he and his lovely wife Angie having a six week old baby girl.

So I would hope that whatever happens between now and then, the supporters – as they did when we organised ‘an evening with’ – will roll up and help out.

I hope that people don’t think because Mark Fry has not made too many pronouncements about the situation at the club, that all is well now.

Because certainly from the information I have, there are still big problems paying the mounting bills now that the fixtures are completed.
