Ebbsfleet idea is non-starter - Lawrie

The little known Ebbsfleet United, who I gather play in the Blue Square Premier and are based in Kent, were this week on every back page of the sports newspapers.

They were formerly known as Gravesend & Northfleet but they haven't stopped at changing their name - they've now decided to do something which no other club, not only in England but the world of soccer, has ever done before.

The end result is that they now have joint ownership of the club by 20,000 people who have been prepared to pay £35 each to a website.

I have mentioned before that I have proudly conquered the fax machine and, at this stage, have little interest burying my head into a screen in addition to watching the odd TV programme.

I accept that things move forward.

Lots of amazing good things have happened because of the introduction of the internet and even in football management the odd bit of machinery has certainly helped managers .

If I was to go back in, I would certainly go with the times.

But this new idea of 20,000 members with access to every aspect of running a football club for me is a non-starter.

I will be extremely interested to see how long Liam Daish continues to work at the club.

Nothing controversial there then Lawrie, when are you going to stand up and be counted?

Why waste space, and time, writing an article like this? How about something more important like, for example, the complete mess your own club is in?

Regardless of his legacy as a manager McMenemy's decision to comment on the affairs of a non-league club (whilst maintaining his resolute silence about the crisis at St Mary's) is nothing other than an insult to the fans of Southampton Football Club

If he doesn't approve of what is happening in the boardroom then he should speak out or resign. Otherwise I am afraid that one can only draw the conclusion that he is supportive of the executives

Nice idea for Saints but I think a bit more than £35 would be needed! Still the fans cant do any worse than the current or previous boards.
Are you telling me that somebody who loves the saints as much as I or all the fans who turn up week after week to see burleys everchanging potion of players (and you cant tell me that they are not playing as they are injured)has not got the money to invest in the club to clear our debts and buy some decent, hardworking players.
Give the fans a chance to sort this mess out.

Well, shows how much good old Laurie has looked into this then, they don't have access to EVERY part of the club.

Why does he insist on commenting on something he knows little about? Why not on commenting on what is happening at Saints instead!!!

You are wrong Lawrie - it has started! Without this, the only way for Ebbsfleet would have been downwards, with the level of support they currently get. Blue Square Premier is virtually a full professional league and without a sugar daddy 1000 people each week aint enough!
