LAWRIE McMenemy today gives his damning verdict on England's Euro 2008 Championship shambles.
The Saints legend, current St Mary's director and former England B manager hits out in today's exclusive Daily Echo column at those guilty for both the on and off-pitch problems.
England's leading players are, according to McMenemy, "very much in the comfort zone";
Ex-boss Steve Mc-Claren was too inexperienced to have been offered the job in the first place;
McMenemy says: "The national job ideally should be for a British manager who has had a long career at club level";
McClaren "showed his inexperience by not letting more of them (his players) realise that they had to work harder and do better to retain a place";
He was also too friendly with the senior players by referring to them by their nicknames;
The FA are guilty of "passing the buck" in the way they handled McClaren's sacking;
England's club sides have given "too much concentration" to signing foreign players."
"McClaren has probably come in at a time when the foreign invasion has finally taken over."
