Me, the Titanic - and Sam!

SAM Allardyce's struggles at Newcastle remind me of my unhappy time in charge of Sunderland, writes Lawrie McMenemy in today's Daily Echo.
I've always liked Sam. What you see is what you get with him and his managerial career is similar to my own.
Sam did a terrific job at Bolton, an unfashionable club battling with the big boys, like the Southampton I managed, before going to Newcastle.
Similarly, after a long time at Southampton, I had the most frustrating 22 months of my career after deciding to go to Sunderland in 1985.
As Jimmy Tarbuck famously said: "What have Lawrie and the Titanic got in common? Neither should have left Southampton!"
He was proved right and I recognise the same situation with Big Sam today.
