Bale back for Saints trip

Daily Echo: Gareth Bale Gareth Bale

Tottenham's Gareth Bale will return from paternity leave to face former club Saints on Sunday.

The Wales international missed the games with Chelsea and Maribor after the birth of his first child and will be joined in the squad by Brad Friedel, who also did not travel to Slovenia for yesterday's Europa League tie.

Emmanuel Adebayor could returns after back pain and be joined at St Mary's by Mousa Dembele, who has recently struggled with a hip complaint. Michael Dawson (illness) will be assessed, while Scott Parker (Achilles), Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul (both knee) are all sidelined.

Provisional squad: Friedel, Lloris, Cudicini, Naughton, Walker, Caulker, Gallas, Dawson, Vertonghen, Smith, Livermore, Parrett, Dembele, Huddlestone, Sandro, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Townsend, Bale, Falque, Dempsey, Defoe, Adebayor.

This will be good news for the Bale/spurs fans who posted on the other thread and who are blind to his cheating. I hope you don't get the chance to clap your hero when he "avoids" Fonte and gets his team 3 points and our expense. Saints surely must be the most generous club in the land. Such admiration for a dishonest footballer. Hopefully he will realise that despite the few deluded, most Saints fans can spot cheating very easilty and he will try to play football. Shame to miss the game, I like watching spurs play at the moment, Dempsey is class as are a couple of others...

I don’t condone diving and think it could easily be eradicated through retrospective punishments. However, it looks to me that you are on a personal crusade with your own agenda against the lad that goes deeper than this.
I hope he gets the warm welcome he deserves as one of our ex players that we helped to turn into the great talent he is now. If you don’t rate him as you said earlier, I’m glad you’re not part of our scouting network.

you are wrong. He is just in the top three of cheats in the Prem and so sticks out a mile, Bale, Young and Suarez stick out a mile. You clap the penalty if he dives to get it, of the free kick he scores from if you want to, I think Saints fans should man-up and get on his back from the very first dive. Most will, true fans hate cheats, Saints fans always have. I rate him as a player when he stays on his feet but I said he was "over-rated" thats different. He is not in the same class as Messi and twitchy saying that just proves what a load of sh1t he talks...

I must honestly say, of all the players that left Saints, he was one which I mostly did hate to see leave. He was a different player then. If he stays on his feet he is a great player. But he won't its so ingrained in him now he just can't help it. The villa dive is hilarious not for his pathetic attempt to get the goalie sent off, its hilarious for the goalkeepers reaction who is laughing so much its priceless.

Just out of respect for an old SAINTS player i feel we should give the lad a good home coming cheer. Judge the lad on the day, if he gets his swimming truncks on and starts trying to con the officials then that's the time to make your feelings known to the player. Until then enjoy his obvious skill.

I think we will see kelvin davis back in goal and the kick up the backside he felt by being dropped might just do the trick. I was at West Ham and i would not like to see the polish keeper between the sticks. Gazza i m o needs more time to develope to the standards needed in the prem.

As Hedge end bob says, judge him on what he does on the day.

He deserves to be welcomed back, with open arms, because he is a truly world class player, and he is a fantastic advert for our academy.

Someone has compared him to Messi, which is ridiculous.

Their style of play is totally different so you cannot compare them like for like.
Just rest assured that there are things that Bale can do that Messi can't and vice versa.
Oh and I'd love to see both of them in a Saint's shirt.

I'm half expecting Bale and co to have a field day tomorrow. This may be seen as a bad attitude but Saints usually play better when they’re not expected to win. It’s the games against the lower teams where we seem to slip up. The whole “must win” seems to make them flap. The atmosphere at the Fulham game was so tense and muted! Maybe on Sunday, everyone will be expecting a defeat so will go in relaxed (after a few beers to numb the pain) and have real good sing, and you never know our shambolic defense may even surprise us!! Great. Change the manager. Anyone remember Wolves last year. Stick with Nige and we will reap the benefits
Well why dont you list the prem clubs that changed manager in November or December and survived.

I will start you off, West Ham 2006/07 got rid of Pardew and survived.

Loyalty to the club is more imporant than loyalty to a nice ma who is not up to the job. You need around 40 points to survive, thats about a point a game. We have played 8 and have 4 points, what about if we play 10 and still have only 4?

I thought about supporting your team was in the hope that they would win- thats why we are happy when they win and sad when they lose.

If NA had had no money to spend in the summer then I would not be so citical, but Saints were the 8th biggest spenders in Euro football in the summer. So who is to blame?

Yes. Statistically you are correct on getting the best result for the team and changing the manager. But each case is different. Are Saints truly slumping right now? Is there disharmony in the team? Has the manager lost the dressing room? Is it just a bit too early for pushing the manager out. On the negatives on changing the manager - how about: Phil Brown at Hull, paul Hart at Pompey, Iain Dowie at Charlton. Steve Wigley at Saints, Peter Reid at Leeds and Sunderland, Jim Smith and Billy Davies at Derby, Chris Hutchings at Bradford. for starters

Thats fair enough its just a question of when, if results dont pick up in the short term. I think the next couple of games will prove it one way or the other, failure to get points will mean his departure is certain. I just hope a decent prem manager (that excludes HR) is found before relegation becomes inevitable.

Regards the dressing room I reckon most of those players feel that there lucky to be playing in the prem and any new manager would get rid of them.

HI Costa Baz agree with your post today. Did you actually see my point of view the other day, West Ham game ?? Afraid mush on the beach is banging his head against a brick wall with MAGRA.

Bale who?
Quite frankly, I don't give 2 sh1ts about that player. He is used in Europe as an example of a British player that is a stylish diver (he might have Mediterranean blood?).
I would not waste a second discussing if we should receive him well or badly- We have to go for the match.

Gareth Bale will be there but he doesn't play for Saints so I will not be giving him a cheer as I do not want him to have a good game. I think the fans should just ignore him and then he might think about what he has done to alienate an entire stadium, but he probably won't.
He dives, so do a lot of other players.
As for Pompey fans on here giving us grief. Please go back to the news and support your club, you do not have anything to be proud of at the moment.

Strange how none of the Saints happy clappies complained when Gareth did hisTom Daley impressions for the Saints.
Sadly it is part of the modern game and referees are there to stamp it out.
Talk of bringing Shaw in against the likes of Adebayor, Lennon, Bale and Defoe is like a volunteer at the Boxing Booth at the Fair on Southampton Common taking on Muhammed Ali in his prime.
If nothing has changed during the last week with Saints tactics, then Spurs to win by at least 3 clear goals, perhaps then the bean counter will give Nigel the support he needs and deserves.
I have my doubts, a big defeat on Sunday will probably spell curtains for Nigel, the bean couter is more cold blooded than any reptile.

Agree Warrens, what he brought to us in his season he played in my book deserves respect. He left to join a club that looked to have a brighter future. Money also came into it for both club and player. There will be a time when our young talent will simply not look or want to move away as there will be no need, they will be able to play at the pinacle of world football right here in SOUTHAMPTON.

Evening all. It seems this place is now teeming with stunts. A word to the wise, my cowardly blue friends: we don't mind you people coming on here. We like the debate. The thing is, when you come on posing as Saints fans and then post some sh1te like "Don't boo Gareth, just accept we'll lose" it not only makes it obvious you're a skate but I think it cheapens you.

Why not just have the balls to say "I hope you lose"? Then we can at least enter into a debate that won't leave you feeling like a kn0b.

Looking forward to seeing bale again, he's a fine advertisement for our club.

He has class. I doubt he will celebrate a goal against us, much less the hat trick that he could put past us in his form, and given our makeshift back line.

Put gazzaniga back in goal (kelvin's distribution would end up going straight int th jaws of the rotten ham midfield), bring on the shaman, out clyne on the right and support the saints.

Certainly guly and fox feel that way, I'm sure. Possibly Davis and hooiveld (though I still rate the Hoover, if he puts the own goals out of his head he'll be fine)

I just hope a decent prem manager (that excludes HR) is found before relegation becomes inevitable. Regards the dressing room I reckon most of those players feel that there lucky to be playing in the prem and any new manager would get rid of them.[/p][/quote]Certainly guly and fox feel that way, I'm sure. Possibly Davis and hooiveld (though I still rate the Hoover, if he puts the own goals out of his head he'll be fine) City Saint

Deluded beyond belief. The talent will also leave your club cos your fans have no passion and don't know how to get behind the team or manager. Its endemic to your club. Unless your town can start producing homegrown talent - you will always be a feeder club. ALWAYS BE A FEEDER CLUB
So what has Pompey done for the world of football recently? Other than fleece it, cheat it and be a general embarrassment to the football league.

See, that I don't mind. You're wrong, and I bet you have a kn0b the size of a prawn, but at least you're not a coward. Well done you.
In February of this year a new type of Amphipod was discovered by a British team off New Zealand. The new species - called a supergiant was in fact 11 inches in length.
