Adkins the poet

NIGEL ADKINS NIGEL ADKINS

Nigel Adkins surprised members of the press yesterday when he started reciting poetry during the pre-match media call ahead of tomorrow’s game with Tottenham.

The Saints boss responded to a question over how he is handling the pressure by reciting Dale Wimbrow’s 1934 poem ‘The Man in the Glass,’ with only a few alterations:

When you get what you want in your struggle for self And the world makes you king for a day, Just go to a mirror and look at yourself, And see what that man has to say.

For it isn’t your father or mother or wife, Who judgment upon you must pass; The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life Is the one starring back from the glass.

He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest.

For he’s with you clear up to the end, And you’ve passed the most dangerous, difficult test If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum, And think you’re a wonderful guy, But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years.

And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be the heartaches and tears If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

The writing is on the wall
Your heading for a fall

Time to book at appointment at the clinic for NA. For someone who has done so much for Saints in the past couple of years, this is looking very sad.

That's why there is no one like our Nige, even in the face of this apparent 'crisis' he will still leave all around him dumbfounded, usually its us lot with his squad & formations but this time its the media's turn, good! One things for certain, none of the skates infatuated with this site will understand a word!

Nigel's poem makes a lot of sense but only if the reflection Nigel is looking at in the glass is not himself but Nicola Cortese!!!!!!!!

When we start winning... and we will!
The negative people shouldn't look in the glass as they will see a wrinkled bitter sad person with nothing left to say.

NA is a gent and he deserves all our support. Let's not be like other supporters from other clubs and call for the blood of a manager when things don't go well. He has done us proud for the last two seasons. Let's stick with him and NC AND the players. We are Southampton!

Had a look in the mirror yourself lately, on reflection it might be a good idea?

Like most supporters, I'm not happy with current form or results. Confused with some team selections and substitutions but I do believe that NA will succeed. Many of the PL teams currently above Saints are also struggling for results, Wigan got their first home win yesterday, and high spending QPR with their 'experienced' PL manager in Hughes can't buy a result. Keep the Faith. All will come right.

Sounds like a man giving his farewell speech. not only is this bizarre behaviour, it is a very gloomy and defiant statement.

The odds on our Nigel leaving must have shortened still further.

Remember that pardew was sacked after a famous (at the time) victory away. Perhaps Nigel is to be sacked, even if he gets a famous victory at home.

I hope not. But all of this is very sad.
