A DURSLEY man who 'cuddled and kissed' a woman in a pub and then assaulted her indignant boyfriend has walked free from court.

Michael Trinder, 24, knocked Wayne Todd to the floor in the Yew Tree pub and broke his nose, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

Trinder, of Severn Road, Woodfields, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Mr Todd.

He had his sentence deferred for three months in July to see if he could stay out of trouble, get a job and save £500 compensation for Mr Todd.

The court was told on Monday that he had avoided further trouble - but still did not have a job and had saved only £100.

His solicitor Sarah Jenkins said he had simply not been able to find work despite going to the job centre and recruitment agencies every week. He had saved the £100 from his jobseekers allowance of £100 a fortnight over the last three months, she said.

Trinder gave evidence on oath to the judge to confirm he had not been arrested, tried or convicted of any offence in the last three months.

Ms Jenkins said Trinder had good prospects of seasonal work for Christmas in the near future.

Judge Tabor sentenced Trinder to 42 weeks jail suspended for two years and ordered him to do 120 hours of unpaid work. He also placed him under a four month curfew from 8pm-6am every night and banned him from all pubs and clubs for the same period.

"No going out over Christmas," said the judge. "That will remind you not to get drunk and start hitting people."

He also ordered Trinder to pay £500 compensation to Mr Todd - £100 immediately and the rest at £10 a week.
