KELVIN Davis is hoping to get the chance to revive memories of arguably the greatest day of his career – and help extend it for a little longer yet.
The Saints stopper returns to Elland Road tonight for the first time since his incredible performance against Leeds in March, which has been hailed as one the greatest ever goalkeeping displays in the club’s history.
Davis became virtually a one-man barrier in the game as Saints won 1-0 on a day that paved the way for Premier League promotion.
Rickie Lambert had given Saints the lead on 16 minutes but Leeds utterly dominated the majority of the rest of the game and could have won by a significant margin if it wasn’t for the heroics of Davis.
Times change quickly in football though and tonight Davis returns as part of a Saints squad hoping to get through in the Capital One Cup – but as the club’s number two.
Davis was dropped earlier this season in favour of Paulo Gazzaniga, who has himself in turn been dropped for Artur Boruc.
The Polish keeper is under pressure after an alleged altercation with Saints fans and nobody has made a decisive grab of the number one jersey, meaning Davis might be just one strong display away from regaining it.
Nigel Adkins is likely to pick between Davis and Gazzaniga for tonight’s game, with Davis hoping to get the nod and put in another starring display to bolster his Premier League selection hopes.
Tadanari Lee could also make only his second appearance of the season – and just the 11th of his injury hit first nine months at the club – after recovering from an elbow injury.
Frazer Richardson and Jack Cork, who have also been sidelined with injuries, are touch and go to make a comeback while Luke Shaw is also back in full training and could be considered at left back.
James Ward-Prowse is expected to get a chance to start, along with Richard Chaplow, while Emmanuel Mayuka could also be considered for what would be his first start since joining the club.
Dan Seaborne might get a rare chance to impress while Jos Hooiveld could feature in the heart of defence after being an unused sub against Tottenham at the weekend.
The bench could again feature a few youngsters with limited first team experience as Adkins remains true to his word of giving the youth a chance wherever possible.

Boruc was a disgrace on Saturday. There's been a family spirit at this club for the last three years - players and fans together. Kevin Davis has been the epitome of that - loyal when he could have joined the other rats leaving the sinking ship, a great leader as club captain, an excellent role model for the youngsters and his saves did as much to win us games and get us promoted as Rickie Lambert's goals. I think he's been incredibly unlucky to be dropped. He's made a couple of errors this season but nothing like as many as the woeful defenders in front of him. The players seem to trust him and I'm sure he helps the team spirit. Get back in there. And teach that schmuck Boruc a lesson.

KELVIN was out of this world against leeds last season.that was in my mind his best performance ever for saints.he inspired his team mates and the whole team played out of their skins but Kelvin was the man of the match.we need him in goal tonight especially if it goes to penalties.
I want to see that desire to win, in this team again.
Sunday, second half, shows we can compete going forward.

Best thing for Saints is to lose against Leeds thus avoiding future injuries in a competition that counts for nothing and concentrate on staying in the Promised Land (PL).
When will NC appoint a PL experienced coach to help NA, the coaching staff and the players, ALL of whom have ZERO experience in the Premier League?
Me thinks that this involves thinking outside the box, which bean counter NC, like most other bean counters, is incapable of doing.
Saints will be destroyed at WBA, how am I so sure? -- by watching football over generations, if I can see it, why can't NA and the coaching staff?
MOTD panellists showed just how bad Saints defence is, not by spending weeks on the training ground with them but observing the game against Spurs, for probably an hour at the most.
If the likes of Le Saux & Hansen can do this, probably in under an hour then why can't NA do it in 3 years??
I'm afraid NA's poetry and Churchillian speeches are wearing a bit thin -- actions speak,louder than words.
I really believe and truly hope it will be the case, that the only alternative to NC sacking NA is to bring in someone like Hoddle to help NA.
This means thinking outside the box and sadly I do not think NC is capable of doing this --- remember that once sacked NA cannot be unsacked.
I earnestly hope NC will see the light and help NA out of this predicament but I doubt if he will.
WBA 3 Saints 1, remember you read it here 6 days before the game! and I am not a Pompey supporter neither do I live in Gosport, I have been a Saints supporter long before the chocolate boxes at the Dell were built and IMO the greatest player ever to pull on a Saints' shirt was Terence Lionel Paine.
If you argue with me you argue with great experience -- so don't bother -- you will only lose -- same as Saints will against WBA -- if I am wrong, I will never post on here again but if am right then expect more ear ache especially the happy clappies!!
