THE Swindon Women’s Institute had their cake and ate it on Saturday at their autumn fair.

Sweet goodies were at the top of the menu as they held a baking competition at the Central Community Centre in Faringdon Road.

Adults were asked to bake a celebration cake, and children made three cupcakes which were judged on flavour and appearance.

The only rule was that they all had to be hand-made and hand-decorated.

As well as the cakes there was vintage high tea, preserves and handmade jewellery.

Children were also entertained with face painting and there was a silent auction to raise funds for the group.

The Swindon WI meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Moose Hall in Old Town.

Craft workshops, cake and social causes are very close to members’ hearts, so they aim to schedule in lots of activities and socials.

They have also just set up a new fundraising committee who will be advertising their talents at local events in and around Swindon.
