In all te interviews before the season started I only recall Adkins saying 'they are working hard behind the scenes to bring in players' and never makes comment about the sort of player he wants to bring in.

Who are 'they' because its not him.

Yes saints stay quiet about transfers but that's because the manager has never had a say in it.

What else can it be other than 'they' are Cortese identifying and bringing the players in, either upcoming names to make cash later if English or foreign players from far reaches to secure sponsorship from abroad.

You would rather we sink to the championship with Adkins than survive with a crook? Are you high? Firstly who says his replacement has to be a crook and secondly if we do sink, god knows how long it will take us to come back up. What is it with some saints fans, this isn't big brother where you pull for your favourite housemate, it's about what's best for the club, not Adkins! He has shown consistently this season that he's out of his depth, wake up and stop pretending that time will change anything.

Why does cortese have to take some of the blame for the transfers? Adkins is the manager! If he had meddled you would all be demonising him. And Adkins needs a mentor, what is this the apprentice or a premiership football club? What is it with saints fans who are willing to see us go back down, so that Nigel doesn't lose his job. He didn't sort out the defence in the summer, billy sharp shipped off on loan months after signing, he tried three different gks in the first seven games and left lambert on the bench twice apart from the fact that players like punchon and guly are not top flight players. Adkins is clearly out of his depth, nice guy though he is, we're not running a managerial school where we bring in tacticians and mentors!

That is great inside information. Again it's made up. Without N.C, we would be playing along side Salisbury. No one can blame N.C for not backing the club. He does not set the formation at 4-3-3, nor does he leave R.L out of the starting line up. He also does not include any of the players from Sunday. He does not play with one up front against Leeds.

Did you feel the same when 'Arry did exactly the same in the League Cup lose THAT season at Mansfield? I was there for that AND I was there last season at Palace. I hate losing - even moreso as a result of playing badly - but I fully understand why a manager picks fringe players for such matches and thus increases the risk of losing. It's a blancing act. He can't pick the same starting 11 for every match; modern footballers' bodies wouldn't be able to cope and by mid-February, he'd be fielding Kelv and ten under-19s.

What's disappointing is that many of those picked this evening (as last year at Palace) didn't step up to the mark. I think there might be several players who have just had their last chance, but give Nigel credit for giving them that chance. How many on here have been crying out for Steeeeeeve to be given a run or for Seeborne to replace Fox or Fonte? Mind you, many of those also called for Kelv to get dropped and have since called for Kelv to start.

2. Wigan lost at home to Bradford.
3. Villa needed a last-minute winner to overcome Swindon.
4. Arsenal went 4-0 down in the first half .........
5. ........ Reading lost that four-goal lead and conceded SEVEN ..... AT HOME!!!!!
6. NA chose to rest players who had been in the mix at the w/e, but give others their chance. If he had played the same 11 who finished the Spurs match, the same moaners would be saying he should have rested those players.

Despite it all, this evening has been a useful run out for a number of players, mostly Mayuka and Tad Lee, who, if they play next w/e, will flourish on the back of getting in some useful match time.

Personally, I'd have liked a win tonight and a crack at Wembley. I'd have liked a few of those picked to have had a storming game, but I'm happy to keep things in perspective. The next three matches are far more important.

We haven't got a reserve team - that's part of the new footballing philosophy at the club. However Sir Alex still puts his superstars out in the Central League/Premier reserve league or whatever they are in - so do most of the othe top teams and it is quite competitive. Livepool Rsvs v Man U Rsvs get bigger gates that Pompey.

I may have understood your first sentence, but are you saying we should have had a far stronger starting 11 tonight?

If so (or for those who said something of the sort above), here's a thought. Let's say Nigel had picked his best available team - that is, most of those from the weekend and, maybe Tad Lee in place of Jay Rod.

Let's say we had done okay in the first half but, with tired legs from Sunday, Leeds had pushed on and won, what would you be saying now?

To be fair to Harry for once - he played that team at Mansfield out of spite to RL who thought that our academy players were not getting a chance and would do well and could make their mark. Harry proved a point. A point that RL didn't learn when he regained control and brought in Dutch Jan with instructions to utilise the juniors.

I am sorry but feel there were no positives tonight. All that has happened tonight is to knock moral further.
Lets face our team is really struggling at the moment.
I really feel that if we had gone for this tonight with the team that played on Sunday then we would have had a half decent chance of getting a moral boosting win. Sadly we didn't have the ambition or desire to win this game.

That is great inside information. Again it's made up. Without N.C, we would be playing along side Salisbury. No one can blame N.C for not backing the club. He does not set the formation at 4-3-3, nor does he leave R.L out of the starting line up. He also does not include any of the players from Sunday. He does not play with one up front against Leeds.

Problem is - who for - Dyer, Bale, Walcott and Oxlade - none for us now. Some of them do look good - but you can't expect someone like JWP to carry the team - he should be learning his trade alongside experienced pro's.
A dream front three of Shearer, Wallace and Le Tissier is real pot of gold under the rainbow stuff and we only managed to keep hold of one of them unfortunately.

you can't "step upto the mark" in an entirely new team. 4 new faces and 3 new subs is realistic but the team tonight was not a Saints 1st team. It was pointless.

Besides when did Lowe ever pay heed to the reaction of the fans? It was other members of the board of directors who blocked the move because they were unhappy with the way Hoddle walked out on the club.

If the board had agreed to appoint Hoddle - a move I was against - the fans would have held their tongues and let him get on with it - myself included.

If he'd been successful, they'd have got behind him and let bygones be bygones. That's football. If he'd done badly, he'd have received no patience from the fans, no benefit of the doubt. That too is football.

The experience of Redknapp after his return to Fratton Park is a case in point. It took a long time for the sceptical Pompey fans to accept him and sing his name. His betrayal was swiftly forgotten as the apparent Skate golden age arrived.

If you recall the Lowe era, he didn't really make a habit of abiding by the wishes of the fans. He very much did things his own way, such as the removal of Pearson and the appointment of Poortvliet. He NEVER appointed the fan's choice as manager.

Granted the appointment of Hoddle might have meant a different course of events up to relegation in May 2005. But given his track record with us and other clubs, any success would have led to a better offer from elsewhere which he would have almost certainly taken. His successor in all likelihood would have been one of his remaining assistants ... Steve Wigley perhaps ...

Appointing Hoddle would merely have been, at best, postponing the inevitable. Due to the failure to attract investment and the PLC structure, SFC would have been relegated at some point. If not 2005, then 2006 or 2007 or 2012.

Moreover there is also no guarantee Hoddle would have avoided the drop - a manager of far-better pedigree with smaller clubs, more experienced in fire-fighting and wheeling and dealing could not prevent relegation.

It made perfect sense for the board of directors not to re-appoint Hoddle. Most employers would not re-hire an employee who left in the circumstances he did. Why should SFC be any different? Why shouldn't the directors show some principles?

It was not the failure to appoint Hoddle in February 2004, but the instability from successive weak appointments that followed Strachan's departure as well as a bloated squad of 36 professional players that caused relegation. Add some significant injuries to key players into the mix and bingo. A club cannot hope to prosper with FIVE managers over a 12 month period as we did during 2004. Incidentally, we went through a similar turnover of managers from early 2008 until early 2009 ... and look what happened ...

These factors were the cause of relegation, not the failure to appoint Hoddle.

To my mind, the reactionary mentality of wanting to get rid of your manager every 9 games is actually a yokel mentality. Those fans calling for Adkins' head are more akin to the idiots outside the Big Brother studio on a Friday night booing and jeering the latest media-manufactured villain.

There are four main reasons I support Adkins:

1. Loyalty - after all his prior success and service to the club Adkins deserves more than 9 games, three of those being against Man City and Arsenal away and Man United home.

2. Stablilty - I don't want to see a return to the Lowe era of a revolving managerial door. That guarantees relegation.

3. Lack of an adequate replacement - as far as I can see most managers with Premier League experience currently out of work are out of work for a reason. Maybe you'd like to see us appoint Steve Kean, Paul Hart, Billy Davies or Avram Grant ...?

The removal of Adkins will not instantly change a situation that is most likely only solved by the acquisition of personnel with the right mental toughness as well as experience of Premier League football.

Unless Adkins' successor has Jedi mind tricks at his disposal, I fail to see how he can reduce, at least in the short-term, the concentration lapses that are all too evident and costing us points.

I think tonight's result says a lot. Too many changes, team spirit not there, and a few players shown to be sub-Championship standard. I would have thought squad players would have seen it as an opportunity to stake a claim to a start at WBA. At this rate be lucky to get a game as an over age player in U-21 fixture.
I had great hopes of Lee - but in another side when we play to his strengths he might shine. Last night he did little to inspire me that he will make a difference now he is fit!
Still through thick and thin as they say - won't stop me watching or listening...but after the last 2-seasons of moving forward - it feels like we are stepping back to the old days. We may be in The Premier League, paying Premier League money, and walking the walk...but we aint talking the talk.
I know it was a big step up for many, and the gloss has started to dull after some encouraging play in the early games.
It's a big IF - but if Gaston Ramirez can inspire us by going forward and seeing those defence splitting balls for the likes of Lee, Mayuka, JayRod (or Lambert and Lallana), we will only get better.

Despite it all, this evening has been a useful run out for a number of players, mostly Mayuka and Tad Lee, who, if they play next w/e, will flourish on the back of getting in some useful match time.

Personally, I'd have liked a win tonight and a crack at Wembley. I'd have liked a few of those picked to have had a storming game, but I'm happy to keep things in perspective. The next three matches are far more important.

Of course anything can happen, but I've gone from wanting to keep Adkins to having the same feeling of putting a dog down.
I did post around 10 months ago that I can't see him as manager in 2013 and that is still the case, I fear he has lost the dressing room.
Spuds could have been 5 clear in the 1st half Sunday, they rested players in 2nd half, we had nothing to lose and come back into it. No shots on goal last night and no shots in 1st half Saturday.
If Adkins remains in 2013 I will cease to post, make a lot of the sheep happy!

We are the laughing stock of football again. Becoming embarissing to say the least. Harry is the stand out candidate IMO.

Adkins has clearly lost the plot and the players. Something has to change very quickly, as i fear we will have a team like last night for next season. Kiss goodbye to Ramirez, Lallana, Lambert and co, if we go down.

This is the harsh reality of the current situation, happened one before, who's to say the Leibherr's wont pull the plug if we go down due to loss of interest?

I think you'll find all his positive mumbo jumbo, very very very very this n that talk is wearing thin with a lot of fans. Schwi couldn't give a flying toss about fans, that is evident in the way we are treated from purchasing tickets/costs, parking, beer and food prices/queues etc etc.

Your opinion about twitchy is not what most want though is it? Try again with some sensible names, you can rule out Strachan, Hoddle, and Ferguson, none of them would want the job. Could try Rafa, Brown, e.t.c. but most certainly someone that has already managed a Premier team would be preferred. Don't get me wrong I would prefer NA to stay, but must be given someone to help him out, he is taking too much on his own back and would do better with more support.

Don't get me wrong I would prefer NA to stay, but must be given someone to help him out, he is taking too much on his own back and would do better with more support.

I think everyone needs to forget the past and move on, if it wasn't for us going down in the first place we would never have had the enjoyment of the last two seasons and the financial backing we have in place now. Everything happens for a reason.

Look what Harry did at spurs, if there is a slight chance he could replicate that with us, surely that is worth the risk. Lets face it, he's getting old, he commutes from Poole and there is NO chance he will go back to the skates this time. No reason for him to want to move anywhere.

Forgive on move on people, its probably whats best for the club. Benitez signed alot of bad players for Liverpool, we need someone to be prudent and make the right moves in January and Benitez could make things worse!

Then maybe tonight has proved a point to those of us on here who have suggested that Nigel should do one or more of the following:
Play Gazza in place of Kelv
Play Shaw in place of Fox
Play Stephens in place of Fonte
Play JWP in place of Davis or Spiderman
Play Reeves in place of ..... well, just about everyone.

Still, on a positive note, it was at Mansfield that I got my first glimpse of Dyer. So, in conclusion, by way of comparison, I wonder how many of the kids involved tonight will end up playing regularly in the Prem.
