QPR's 1-0 defeat at Stoke means that Saints move up to 19th in the Premier League table. Reading's draw at Norwich keeps the Royals a point ahead of Nigel Adkins' men. That's it from us today - thanks for joining us. We'll have reaction from the manager on the website shortly. A full report, as well as quotes from the Saints camp, will be available in this evening's Sports Pink...
4:57pm
FULL-TIME: Saints 1 Swansea 1
4:47pm
PENALTY APPEAL: Adam Lallana again goes down in the area, claiming he was tripped by Garry Monk in the 85th minute, but Andre Marriner again ignores his appeals.
4:34pm
GOAL Saints 1 Swansea 1 (Dyer 73): Saints shoot themselves in the foot with a terrible piece of defending. Paulo Gazzaniga chips a poor pass out to Maya Yoshida, who struggled to control the ball and was dispossessed by ex-Saint Nathan Dyer. The winger raced forward, before looking up and firing a skidding shot across goal and in off the far post.
4:24pm
GOAL: Saints 1 Swansea 0 (Schneiderlin 64): A delivery from the left is nodded back across goal by Rickie Lambert. Morgan Schneiderlin chests the ball forward and then nods it home from close range.
4:20pm
CHANCE: The ball falls to Rickie Lambert in space in the area, but as he winds up for a thumping left-foot shot in the 59th minute, Ki Sung-Yeung slid in to produce a brilliant saving tackle.
4:18pm
CHANCE: Wayne Routledge fires Pablo Hernandez's cutback just over the bar from 18 yards in the 56th minute, as Swansea break down the right. Routledge is then withdrawn for ex-Saints winger Nathan Dyer.
4:13pm
CHANCE: Saints press Swansea back in the early stages, but Schneiderlin loses out to Michu in midfield, with the visitors breaking forward and Angel Rangel hitting a deflected shot behind from 25 yards in the 52nd minute.
3:50pm
HALF-TIME: Saints 0 Swansea 0
3:43pm
PENALTY APPEAL: Adam Lallana goes to ground under pressure from Angel Rangel in the 39th minute, but referee Andre Marriner waves play on. Looked like the correct decision.
3:40pm
CHANCE: Gaston Ramirez is fouled 30 yards out, leading to a booking for Ashley Williams in the 36th minute. From the resulting free-kick, the Uruguayan produces a disguised chip to the back post, finding Jose Fonte unmarked. His ball across the face is blocked by Ben Davies, before Fonte pounces on the rebound, only to be denied again at close range by the defender.
3:30pm
CHANCE: Gaston Ramirez works room just outside the area in the 26th minute and, as a couple of Swansea players dive in front of him, he unleashes a stinging left foot shot that flashes just wide of the post.
3:23pm
CHANCE: Swansea with their first real effort of the contest, as the ball is worked to Ki Sung-Yeung just inside the corner of the penalty box. He hits a powerful left foot shot that Paulo Gazzaniga has to turn round his near post in the 20th minute.
3:19pm
CHANCE: Adam Lallana 's volley on the turn in the 15th minute forces a good save from Gerhard Tremmel in the Swansea goal. Gaston Ramirez then hits a low shot just wide of the post a minute later.
3:13pm
CHANCE: Little in the way of goalmouth action in the opening stages, as Swansea retain a huge amount of possession, but Saints do start chipping away and create an opportunity in the tenth minute, as Jason Puncheon lays the ball off the Morgan Schneiderlin on the edge of the area. The Frenchman's right foot shot goes high and wide, however.
2:56pm
The players are out on the pitch. Kick-off now just minutes away. Stay with us for updates throughout the match.
2:31pm
He [Luke Shaw] might have figured a little bit earlier but what we've got is a young player with huge potential. What we've got to do is nurture him correctly because he is still a young boy who is growing up. What we have to do is extract as much potential out of him and he has got to do that himself. I believe he has got a good environment where he can do that.
Nigel Adkins on Luke Shaw
2:17pm
Saints make three changes from the team that lost 2-0 at West Brom last Monday. Danny Fox is dropped for Luke Shaw, with the 17-year-old becoming the youngest ever player to start a Premier League game for the club. Jack Cork returns from injury to make his first league start of the season, with Steven Davis dropping to the bench. Jason Puncheon comes in for Jay Rodriguez. Swansea are unchanged from the side that drew 1-1 with Chelsea last weekend.
2:14pm

If you win two games, suddenly things can change for you in this league, and that can happen for Southampton. I don’t want to see any manager lose his job and of course I have sympathy for Nigel Adkins because he is a colleague. We know that when things are going well it’s because of the players and manager, but when they are not so good it’s just the manager. I wish him the best, but only after this weekend. They (the players) will really want to win for him. If he goes and another manager comes in, you never know what happens to you as a player. And they are all aware that if they end up back in the Championship, their whole life changes. We are going to be playing a team who could not be more motivated, and we have to match that. If we play with same focus and concentration as them, I am sure we have the quality to get something there, whether it is one point or three.
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup
1:34pm
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has also weighed in on the subject, and has reassured Adkins that brighter times could well lie ahead soon. His comments coming up in a moment...
1:29pm
The relationship between me and the chairman is very good, which is an important one at any football club. I would imagine there would be loads of speculation about different things, but it is strong and it is good. We talk regularly as we have always done and we’re determined to make this a success. There is no need to speak about my position. It is a football club determined to be successful. We obviously spoke in the summer about our strategies and we’re working very hard. We’ve now had 10 games of the season and obviously only picked four points up. We sit at the bottom. That’s fact, that’s reality. As we always do at the football club, we assess situations. We have to accept where we are but then we look forward and move on. We’re obviously looking at the next run of games. We take one game at a time in respect to the next one which is at the weekend against Swansea. We are focused on winning that. Let’s not hide away from the fact that in football at some stage there is always a parting of the ways between a manager and a football club. I am determined to be a success here at Southampton Football Club, the chairman is determined to be a success here at Southampton Football Club so we both share the same ambition. What we do is we get on. There doesn’t need to be any talk about it. We will be a success here.
Saints manager Nigel Adkins
1:27pm
In what has now become something of a weekly tradition, Saints manager Nigel Adkins was on Thursday quizzed about his future at the club and his relationship with chairman Nicola Cortese. A full story is available to read, but the manager’s comments will follow in a moment here...
1:16pm
SWANSEA SQUAD NEWS: Manager Michael Laudrup has no new injury troubles. Defender Chico Flores is, however, rated as “very doubtful” as he continues to recover from a dead leg. That means that former Saints player Garry Monk, who was at the club from 1996 until 2004, is set to continue at centre half. Another of the club’s old players, winger Nathan Dyer, will be among the Swansea squad.
1:08pm
SAINTS SQUAD NEWS: Goalkeeper Artur Boruc is available for selection. The 32-year-old had been under investigation by the club for allegedly throwing a water bottle at home supporters in the 2-1 defeat against Spurs two weeks ago. Boruc had been left out of contention since that match, but the club have announced he is available again. Midfielder Jack Cork is also fit after a knee injury and could make his first league appearance of the season.
1:02pm
Good afternoon and welcome to the Daily Echo’s blog covering today’s Premier League contest between Saints and Swansea. Nigel Adkins remains at the helm, having emerged from talks with chairman Nicola Cortese on Tuesday with his job intact. Patience is running thin at St Mary’s, however, and the manager is in need of a positive result today if he wants to be sure of being given further time in charge. Saints, who are bottom of the table with four points from ten games, can at least take heart from returning to home soil. It is at St Mary’s where the club have garnered all of their points so far this season, and while a win this afternoon cannot take them out of the relegation zone, it could move them up to 18th. Their opponents, Swansea, are enjoying the comfortable surroundings of mid-table, with their 12 points so far this campaign having put them into 11th place. But Michael Laudrup’s team haven’t picked up a point away from home since the opening day of the season, when they dismantled QPR 5-0 at Loftus Road. They did, however, win 3-1 at Liverpool in the Capital One Cup in their last match away from the Liberty Stadium, while they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Manchester City days before that game and drew 1-1 at home with Chelsea last weekend. Stay with us for the build-up, team news and match updates.

NC never acted on my suggestions about trying to talk Steve Coppell in to joining Saints as co manager alongside NA, as far as I know anyway. A'h well.
I wonder if Mr Redknapp will be hovering at St Marys today?

Very surprised to see no comment re the article about Nicola Cortose in the Daily Mail. Whilst accepting the DM must be read with a huge hand-full of salt what I find worrying is put that article alongside other matters that have been aired and it does strike me that NC is little more than a despot who we all know tend to rule by fear. If NA does depart (sacked or resign) then it going to take a very strong character to stand upto NC and impose his will on the team. This will lead to further confrontations potentially effecting team performance. The next two games will I believe determine NA's future and our season. Here's hoping for 6 points.

and when the last nail is being hammered in, the Happy Clappers would still believe he's backing Nigel.
Of course, to them, the Daily Mail, the Echo, the Sun, MLT, Uncle Tom Cobley and all, are conspirators
There's none so blind as those who will not see.
All the time he was winning, Nigel was OK, with Cortese, it's when the chips are down, good managers like Nigel, need support and help from their chairman, not showdown meetings and ultimatums.
People's characters are best judged by how they deal with adversity not success.
Cortese's actions over the past couple of months, hanging out Nigel to dry without a public word of support says it all about him
The Happy Clappers should remember it was Markus and his money that saved Saints not Cortese.

How does he / she, know what Steve Coppell or Nigel Adkin might or might not do or think?
At least my suggestion was positive, practical and will save the sacking of a good man who perhaps just needs time, experienced help and support, until after the January window, when he can then strengthen at the back.

with this very limited bunch of players,no-one should be in any doubt why we are bottom of the league.Too many people buy into this yankee creed that a positive attitude enables people to defy the laws of physics.Well it don't.
If this truly was NA's thought process in the summer then he should have been sacked then.If he is still maintaining anywhere near this delusional claptrap,he should be sacked now.

How does he / she, know what Steve Coppell or Nigel Adkin might or might not do or think?
At least my suggestion was positive, practical and will save the sacking of a good man who perhaps just needs time, experienced help and support, until after the January window, when he can then strengthen at the back.
Up the Saints.

In my opinion, once we got the goal, we were complacent at the back - we thought all of a sudden we had good defenders. I fear this game has cost Adkins his job - well done Gazza

The biggest game of the season next week, lose and we are doomed... unless we have a bit of luck! And the way our luck is just not happening for us... Deflected goals, in off a post, own goals... It surely has to change.
If we were on deal or no deal we would have the penny!

Man City batter us but we somehow only lose 3-2.
Wigan, yes, Wigan roll us over at home 2-0 and he does nothing.
Man Utd bring on world class Scholes when we are 2-1 up. He does nothing, we lose.
Arsenal batter us 6-1.
Aston Villa got 1-0 up, lose their best player and we roll them over. Clap clap.
Everton start to demolish us in the space of 10 minutes, he does nothing, we lose 3-1.
Fulham are awful but we only draw.
West Ham batter us 4-1.
Spurs batter us first half and then totally take their foot off the gas second half and still beat us.
West Brom go 2-0 up after 56 minutes, 20 minutes later he makes a sub, we lose.
Swansea equalize and we do....nothing.

It is true that for the bigger clubs decisions even out over the season amongst themselves....howeve
r the proffessional cunning for us is lacking, indeed an element of integrity and not complaining and cheating unfortunately is costing us....
I believe that when every sport can have video replays except football it is because it will prevent matches being influenced, SAF, Platini, Sepp Blatter and others like the ability to have this "influence" in the game.
