You can't sack Nigel ... even if we lose at QPR

NICOLA Cortese should stick with Nigel Adkins as manager – even if Saints lose tomorrow’s crunch contest at fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers.

That is the view of lifelong fan and chairman of the Southampton Independent Supporters Association Mike O’Callaghan ahead of what he deems “a real six pointer.”

O’Callaghan, who will be at Loftus Road tomorrow, said last night: “Nothing Cortese does would surprise me, but I would definitely keep him charge even if we lose at QPR.

“Adkins should be given at least until Christmas.

“If Cortese does decide to sack him then, at least he can get a new manager in ahead of the January transfer window.

“But we spent almost £30m in the summer, so I don’t know how much money would be available to any new manager.

“I’ve heard the rumours about Gianluca Vialli and Di Canio, but Nigel Adkins has a proven record of getting teams promoted even after they were relgated. His CV is far better than Di Canio’s.”

O’Callaghan added: “There’s no reason why we can’t win this weekend.

“We need to go there and take the game to QPR because they’re at home and there’s more pressure on them than us.

“Obviously there is pressure on us, though, because we’re in the bottom three and the longer you stay there the more the pressure grows.

“We have been in this situation before when we were at The Dell and always survived, a bit like Wigan have done recently.

“But it’s a lot more challenging now because there’s a lot more money involved.”

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WINNING.

RED ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRMY.

During Saints vs Swansea Rickie was slow on a couple of occasions to pull the trigger.

If he wants to move into the top group for goal scorers in the Premier League - he needs to be fired up and ready to strike at will. Last game he was drifting back to providing assists and although he is very good at that - SAINTS WILL WIN when Rickie is on Top Form.

NIGEL - WORK WITH RICKIE FOR THE WIN AGAINST QPR.

Second point is that we need ADAM to be on Top Form - sharing the Captain's Armband around will help him concentrate on his play making

Many reasons to stick with Nigel...a manager with a good track record, 2 promotions, and he has support of players and fans. Other reasons: who is available to take his place and the cost of ending his contract and getting a replacement.

I find the Poopey Scummers are like the flies on my beach, irritating but one good swat and it is end of!!! Some of them I find tickle me in some strange perverse way and so I spare them.

For all you Saints fans backing Adkins i can understand but DO NOT underestimate Di Canio as he is going to manage in the Premier league. Yes he may be in charge of my team at the moment but what he has done in a short space of time and with his playing experience and contacts his pedigree is alot higher than Adkins. Dont get me wrong i want Adkins to succeed at you club as he has done well and deserves a good crack of the whip and if Cortese sacks him i feel he is making a grave mistake. Making the jump up is massive to the premier league but i feel the difference with Di Canio and Adkins is that Di Canio is more tactically aware and more intelligent when it comes to analysing teams they are playing.
I understand from one of the saints ex players that players are queing up to play for Di Canio and jump at the chance when interest is shown by our club and not many clubs can say that about there managers.
It will be a tough game tomorrow for you and who ever gets the three points will probably kick on from there.
i also heard that Saints wont have alot of money to spend in january and your failure is defensively without a doubt which is one area Di Canio would have sorted. i know we are lower league but last season we let in 1 goal at home in 7 months as Di Canio sorted the defence out and Adkins needs to do the same for you as an average of 3 goals per game you are letting in is definite relegation form.
So i hope adkins sorts you out as i want Di Canio to stay with us a while longer yet but i do feel its not long before he will be in the premier league managing a team.
Interestingly enough his two daughters go to university in Southampton so could there be something in that as well !!!
