Yes, but you have to think of these as well:

- JK Rowling's grandparents.
- Mary Tudor and Louis XII (he died because they tried too hard - and failed - to produce an heir).
- Strassie and the French administration, French opening hours, all French drivers, most French waiters (but the waitresses are forgiven) and nearly every French shop assistant (male & female).

which brings back a number of personal memories for me - we lost my Granddad on the Normandy beaches....... he turned up later at the tourist information centre - he said been looking for an ice-cream..... but we were very anxious for a while. In the early 70s my Dad had a passionate correspondence with Catherine Deneuve (although she used the nom de plume "Madge" and seemed to write to him mostly from her (I presume) holiday home in Freemantle. Which brings me back to Morgan Schneider Trophy (a nice combination of engines if ever there was one) and Jacques Bouchon. What a combination! I think that with those two as a solid platform to bolster the defence and from which to launch wave after wave of assaults on the enemy positions, we won't need to send reinforcements to from Southampton to Harfleur nor sew up those breeches with our English thread or was it throw up them leeches in Tracey Ermin's bed? The thing with players like Corky and Spider is that you don't really notice how good they are until they're not in the team. When Spider got injured this season we turned to absolute crud. I think our revival has been sparked firstly by getting him back and then by getting Cork back.

Now it's game on. I actually feel sorry for the rest of the league.

I thought Davis was meant to be a creative midfielder with a decent range of passing, sort of in the Paul Scholes mould.

I've not seen an awful lot of that so far, although this might just be because we've spent quite a lot of time on the back foot.

Davis plays best as a holding midfielder (or as you say tackling and defensive cover) but is also good at passing the ball out and moving forward, controlling it and getting it forward on the ground, making defense from attack. These jobs together make him a very good player.

the thing is his he any better than dean hammond .and we sent him out on loan .so far he has given no more to the team then dean did ,maybe we could of kept dean and signed a left back .which would of made more sense

Little Retford's on the mend, cheers. He's still got all types of liquid coming out of both ends but the main thing is he's out of hospital and his mum is dealing with that while I'm at work.

As for Anglo-French relations, let's not forget how during the war we united to help crush those bad prats (and the Nazis WERE prats) to the East. Southampton are learning the lessons of history well.

Exactly - the last thing I want to do is knock SD because we'll rely on him in some pretty big games this year, but my first two would always be Cork next to Spider.

Whether it was the fact that he was being asked to play out of his normal position, I simply don't know. His head went down and he seemed to lose his confidence.

However, he does need to pick himself up and push more now that we have so many attacking options (and an attack that seems to be back working). If he doesn't, he'll be in the doldrums forever. If he does, he's obviously capable and should shine through. I think the problem's all in his head, so it's his choice.

I reckon that with Ramirez sitting just behind him and with Lals and Punch cutting in from the wings there should be plenty of service, but is anyone else clinical enough to take the chances that don't fall to Rickie? I think J Rod, Tadanari Lee and Mayuka will need to be patient and be prepared to wait for their moments as long as Rickie, Gaston and Punchy and Lallana are fit. They'll be first choice if they can keep performing in the settled side which now seems to be evolving. Let's hope for another 3 points against the Toon and then we can see if we are now beginning to get a foothold in the league and hopefully climb the table.

Yeah I agree that they need to be patient but I also feel that J Rod has had a lot more of a crack at the whip than Mayuka and Lee but hasn’t taken it. I really believe the later two have some real quality to offer but as said, they’re gonna have to be patient and when they do get the chance, grab it with both hands.

I feel the same about J Rod. He seemed to come in with so much hope, sounded the part, looked the part, then totally and utterly underperformed.

Whether it was the fact that he was being asked to play out of his normal position, I simply don't know. His head went down and he seemed to lose his confidence.

However, he does need to pick himself up and push more now that we have so many attacking options (and an attack that seems to be back working). If he doesn't, he'll be in the doldrums forever. If he does, he's obviously capable and should shine through. I think the problem's all in his head, so it's his choice.

Rodriguez has only started a few games, give him a chance! He's not the finished article yet, he'll come good,

To me he's the Lambert replacement be in through injury or in the 75th minute when he tires. I don't think he was bought for the development squad, I think he was bought for the main squad which is a Prem squad.

If we play two upfront I'd expect to see Lambert or JRod and Mayuka or Tad Lee to bring the essential ingredient of pace.

He has had reasonable game time and doesn't seemed to have grabbed his opportunity. If I was Mayuka I'd be a bit miffed.

The QPR game showed how good we are going forward. They were poor so our frailties weren't tested. The Toons will test us, we need no silly mistakes which will be the first time this season if we do!

Ramirez is obviously the best in the hole but Lallana can play there too, as can probably the much improved Puncheon. But these two give us great attacking options on the flanks, going wide or cutting in. Morgan and Cork holding and box to box (alternating at times but prefer Morgan deeper) every time for me. Davis and JWP are strong replacements, however.

we were playing 4 4 3 for weeks ,far to narrow ,now we have cork back we can play with 2 in the middle .or all the other formations i agree with that .its the 4 3 3 i had issues with ,as nigel siad he wanted to play that ,to narrow for me exposing the flanks,partically the left

In Lambert’s absence, J Rod and perhaps Guly can play the up front role where the key requisites are ability to get on the end of crosses, hold the ball up and lay it off. Certainly not Mayuka (too small and not strong enough to hold it up with his back to goal) and probably not Lee (similar shortcomings but not so pronounced).

Ramirez is obviously the best in the hole but Lallana can play there too, as can probably the much improved Puncheon. But these two give us great attacking options on the flanks, going wide or cutting in. Morgan and Cork holding and box to box (alternating at times but prefer Morgan deeper) every time for me. Davis and JWP are strong replacements, however.

we were playing 4 4 3 for weeks ,far to narrow ,now we have cork back we can play with 2 in the middle .or all the other formations i agree with that .its the 4 3 3 i had issues with ,as nigel siad he wanted to play that ,to narrow for me exposing the flanks,partically the left

443 equals too many players on the pitch but I get your point if you mean 433 being too narrow. Merrington's tiresome response was that we should go 442 - outdated and awful.

I would probably put Pahars slightly ahead of Boateng - but only slightly - as he did go to Milan straight after. Defoe's goal to game ratio at Pompey was 1 in 2 - so no comparison - and he he was an England regular during his time at Pompey.
I think Niemi was a good goalie, but even Hislop lasted 10 years at the top and was great at Newcastle. But Niemi was v good at Saints, so maybe he could make the bench.
Bale, Walcott and Oxy were all up and coming at your club before they left, but maybe Bale could edge Berger out - but only maybe - as Berger was class - but fading.
Sheringham had only just stopped playing for England when he came to Pompey - so Lambert is not getting a look in.
